I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to have extra bolts after the job is done. Does anyo

I hate to respond just to say I've got nothing...but I've got nothing. That is a totally generic looking bolt I've seen and removed 100 times while working on the interior of my 4Runner. 12mm suggests it's meant to secure more of a main component than a trim piece. Good luck!

TRD Air Filter is back? PTR03-00083

I purchased a Toyota Performance Air Filter (Part No. PTR03-00083) for my 2024 4Runner just the other day. My personal preference is to re-use things rather than discard them; but no judgment from me. I'm keeping the original paper filter as my backup. I do have a question for anyone using the...

Timing belt related noise? (two years after TB job)

I bought the same or similar kit that came highly recommended when completing my timing belt job. 3 years later, the timing belt failed while driving at 70 mph down the highway. I am not a sufficiently good mechanic to figure out whether it was a part failure or installer error (me). However, I...

    TOYOTA 2016-2019 4Runner Repair Manual RM27F0U

Download success It is May of 2024 and I can confirm the download still works. Type in the URL, download, extract using the provided password, generate bookmarks, and life is good. I used peazip to extract since my native extraction tool with Windows 11 was confounded. I'll be using this...

    Speedometer Adjustment

I checked and as of 2023 both companies do offer products for the 5th gen 4Runner. The Hypertech is plugged into the OBDII port and apparently recalibrates the ECU. The Rough Country looks like it is installed in-line behind the instrument cluster and stays connected.

    Underneath rocker panel rust repair

Sorry to see that rust. I am in no way an expert, nor am I welder, but I would go all the way and cut that rust out and weld in some new pieces of metal. It would give me peace of mind knowing it was done right. Just my two cents. Good luck!

Please help me figure out my transfer case model

This thread should be able to help you: Transfer case model number Good luck!

Would you buy this 3rd Gen?

I would not, but I am already dealing with my own rust bucket 4Runner. Speaking from experience, I would say you have to get underneath it and test whether or not you can stick your finger through any part of the frame. Also, be prepared for bolts snapping off on a regular basis if you work on...

Can you delete one catalytic converter without throwing codes?

TL;DR: can I replace my second catalytic converter with a straight pipe that has a built in O2 sensor flange and not throw any codes? I've got a 2002 and every year I have to crawl under my rig to fix my annual exhaust leak for the Virginia safety inspection. If you've got an exhaust leak, you...

    Driving down steep fsr

I have a 3rd gen, so no fancy downhill assist for me. Use 2nd and then low gear to slow you down. When that isn't enough, drop into 4lo and that reduction in gear ratios will slow you down, as well. I used every trick I had to get down a steep grade with switchbacks this last weekend in the...

    Emblem Removal??

I used fishing line and a heat gun. Unfortunately, one of the badges took the clear coat with it, so be careful. On my 3rd gen, the only badge with pins is the rear toyota symbol.

How do you get the ABS sensor off?

Don't give up hope! It took me about twenty minutes to get the electrical connector disconnected and the wiring plugs removed. It took me an additional half hour between fighting with the right rear ABS sensor and searching solutions on the Internet for how to get the damn thing out. My...

    Transfer case model number

All of this reminded me of a website I used like a decoder ring for figuring out my differential gear ratio in preparation for doing a factory e-locker swap. I thought it would be nice to sort of close the loop on this drivetrain model number love-fest by including a link to the website that has...

    Transfer case model number

Awesome! Not only did you know the model names of all the drivetrain components, but you know the breakdown of the codes themselves. Thank you both. I stand in awe of your massive brains. :hail:
