The 3rd gen buyer's guide is actually what brought me to this forum! I was already planning on getting a carfax and a pre purchase inspection since it's my first 3rd gen but thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the info. What would you want to know/see regarding the swap in order to have some peace of mind? If the seller wasn't able to provide any documentation for it, I should just walk away right?

I get that it takes more than a few pictures to determine how severe the rust is. I was more wondering if it was even worth making the drive to go see it considering the way that the crossmember looks. Looks like I’ll probably move on to the next one.

Hi, I’ve been looking really hard for a 3rd gen 4Runner. There don’t seem to be very many options out there right now even if I’m willing to spend a little bit more (up to $10,000 CAD). All of the decent shaped high mileage ones (200,000+ miles) are too expensive for what they are ($8000-$9000...

What do you guys think about the rust on this one? I’ve already decided that I’m not going to purchase this one but I’m curious to see what you guys might think are problem areas. For reference, this is a 2000 Limited with the e-locker with about 155,000 miles. Asking for $12,700 CAD.

And I had thought the prices up here in British Columbia were ridiculous. The most expensive one that I’ve seen recently was $14000 CAD with 180,000 miles for a 1999 (ad didn’t say which trim and there aren’t enough pictures to tell).

That frame looks great. Up here in British Columbia, most frames I’ve seen are much worse even with significantly less mileage. Nice find!
