What everyone else has mentioned above...fluids, tires and brakes are the big ones on my list. I do a lot of long distance in my Runner and have no problems whatsoever. MPGs could be a hell of a lot better though. Have fun!

Thanks all - will begin the hunt in the new year. As far as getting a Land Cruiser, while that would be ideal, they're very rare up here in Canada and when you do find one they're pricey. My alternative would be to go the Lexus version but I'm not into all that wood and leather.

The family has grown again and I'm trying to stay out of a mini-van. I know that Highlanders have a 3rd row option but I understand that some 4th Gen 4Runners do as well. Which years was/is this an option and are they hard to find on the used market? Would love to stay in a 4Runner if possible...

I want to replace my rusted out rear coolant lines and with soft line. How much coolant hose should I purchase? I would guess around 4ft send and 4ft return, so maybe 8ft of line?

In my experience, chirping indicates the need for your driveshaft(s) to be lubed. Get a grease gun into the zerks and see if that stops it. Otherwise I would hazard a guess at brakes, bushings or your hood stops (the rubber things where your hood lands). Good luck finding the problem.

Yakima Universal Mighty Mounts should give you some mounting options. I use them myself for different things. Also the Yakima 24H Mighty Mounts if you can still find them (they're discontinued).

This is common...3rd Gens, 4th Gens. Lube your shaft/joints. Mine was thunking and chirping and then I got underneath with the grease gun. Problem solved.
