Makes sense with the temperature slide control... So you tink the brake booster could be leaking other then the 1 hose coming out then? Can you see what that white plastic knob is for? I do not have a repair manual.

Why is there that "No Clutch Engage" Button above your left knee in the 1st gens? I know what it does, but why did they have that in the vehicle?
