    What are your HIGHWAY mpg's?

1999 4Runner Limitedn w/ 200k It all makes sense - tune, tires, gearing and year model are the variables. I'm getting 17mpg on average with a '99 model at 200k, clearly not as refined as a later model 3rd gen, much less even newer years. My 2003 Tundra gets closer to 19 or 20 with the same...

Build Thread: Mothra, the (blown) budget camping rig

Very cool offroad vehicle. I'm running my '99 Limited as factory but put this interior camper mod together for a quick swap from street to trail. It completely outfitted with a mattress, lighting, camp site canopy, table and even some magnetic bug screens for the rear windows and liftgate...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Introducing the 4Camper! Spent the last few weeks assembling camping gear to outfit my latest accessory - a sleeping deck with drawers. Not shown, yet, is a foam mattress, 8X8 tailgate canopy for shade and a sitting area, along with all the various camping gear for fall trips. Will also be...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Had a suspicious death today - the Kenwood Excelon head slowly went berzerk, then died. A call to Crutchfield resurrected it with a simple reset using the proverbial 'paper clip' trick. All is well and we are rockin' again!

Do you use your e-brake when parking?

Avoiding drivetrain stess is the goal - so, On the flat it's into Park with brakes still applied and pull the hand brake until just set, release the foot brake pedal. On an incline, it's hold the foot brake and go into Neutral, set the hand brake firmly, then put into Park. Then, 'turn front...

    #2 Misfire - P0302

Looks too rich or has oil getting on it somehow. Should be a neutral grey color. Check the gap for in/out of spec.

    My not-so-spectacular 1999 Limited build.

I just put a set of those very same tires on my '03 Tundra - got mine through Walmart for $450 OTD. They're pretty quiet for an AT. Congrats on the great 4R find - it's good to know you will keep it running well.

    Satoshi Grille mod question

I picked up a vintage OEM condensed text logo for my yet-to-made Satoshi on my '99 Limited. I think that version looks the best as it harkens to Toyotas of yesteryear. Someday...

Why such little power for the 3.4L V6?

I vaguely understand what this is about but have to agree the porting/valvetrain/tuning, and gearing, contribute to the '99 3.4's lack of power. My '03 Tundra base model 5-speed is like a whole different vehicle - peppy, quick and way more fun. It also gets about 4mpg better fuel mileage. Let's...

is a dd 3rd gen for $4k in southeast realistic?

Bought my mechanically pristine, one owner, dealer serviced '99 Limited with 184k on the clock for $6800 OTD. Besides plugs, NGK wires, a Kenwood Excelon H/U and some floor mats, it's been a low cost ride for over a year.
