Based on this thread I did some searching and found the vault sold by Toyota (manufactured by EG Classics) for $220 shipped on the Bay. Toyota part number 00016-86184. Fits nicely, access to power port, 3 digit combo and also a key. Not sure how it stacks up compared to others, but it seems...

Yeah, the bolts provided with the new brackets were actually really nice quality, just about 1/4-inch or so too short to use with the washer/locking washers. No big deal! It's fun to go to the hardware store anyhow :)

No progress today...discovered that the bolts for the new brackets aren't long enough to use with the wind deflector. Off to the hardware store. Pics later...maybe next weekend!

Yeah, I imagine gusts would generate more noise. I've done 75+ here and it was still relatively quiet. You know it is there, but it isn't dominating your ears.

As for wind noise...not a whole lot. There is some, but it is fairly subdued on the street or highway.

It did come with a fairing. Pic attached. Also attached a pic of the original "version 1" brackets that are being replaced with improved ones. The new ones have not arrived yet. I attached a pic of the newer brackets (with a light bar installed - not mine) they are sending.

Just a shout out to the crew over at LFD Off Road. I picked up a 7/8 roof rack from them and had it shipped out to California. I installed it on a 2017 TRD OR model. Fits like a glove. SUPER nice quality and easy to install. Can easily be installed by one person. I have no in-progress pics, but...

Hi there...still have not discovered the issue with the noise so just living with it. It really sucks that nobody seems to know what it is or can figure out a fix.

So, an update to this old thread of mine. Finally got my truck over to Toytota for them to look and see what 4 Wheel Parts did...wrong. The rear "thud" is still there. Toyota confirmed it and suspects that the rear KDSS piston is compressing and then sticking...and then suddenly letting go after...

Didn't time it, but I can say with some accuracy that it fully extended back to full length in about 3 seconds...from fully compressed to fully extended.
