Thanks nevada! I'll have to try that out. Is that a cheaper fix than if the whole thing needs to be replaced or is the labor basically the same?

Unfortunately, I haven't narrowed down the issue yet. When I took the vehicle in for S/E at the Toyota dealer, I had one of the techs drive it around briefly so I could show him the noise and he was convinced it was the tires... which I just had replaced and since it was making the same sound...

Thanks bawachhe, I have Safety & Emissions coming up and it's free for me at the dealer, so I'll get a second opinion on the noise then and perhaps take it to another local shop to have the diff fluid replaced.

Just recently, I've begun to notice a humming sound during deceleration in my 05 V8 4x4. It most resembles the kind of resistant sound that occurs when you shift down in a manual to slow the vehicle. If I just roll around the neighborhood with the windows down, I don't hear any kind of noises...
