A neighbor works for the local Firestone dealer. Blizzaks all day long. I've had two sets of wheels for our 4Runner and the Audi. Easy driveway swapping or if bought at the dealer they do it for free since it's considered as the free tire rotation.

I was going to order the Bilstein 4600's this winter and change them in the spring. At 141k miles I wouldn't think the springs are "worn out" since 99% of the miles have been pavement. 1% gravel roads in Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota... Thoughts or suggestions?

My 2000 has a 5 speed with E locker. During the summer of 99 we saw several at a dealer in Lander,Wyoming and found ours in Colorado Springs. The dealers in Wisconsin claimed their buyer group wouldn't stock them for Iowa, Minnesota and Wisco. Too bad for everyone else, I got mine.

Will you be replacing the springs at the same time? I have a 2000 so I'm very interested in what you're doing and where you'll get your parts.

Oh, I thought you were saying it wouldn't go down because moisture was getting in through the stages of the antennae due to lack of lube. It sounds like the motor is dead? Sounds like a new antennae is in your future.

Maybe it's the bulletin board software, but the VW forum I frequent for my other vehicle sorts differing subjects, makes and models quite well. Better than here IMHO.

If it's still cold and it won't retract get some Brake Cleaner and spray the antenna when it's up. Then give the antenna a good spray with a penetrating oil... not WD-40, it isn't actually an oil. While it may be better than nothing and it's closer to being a solvent, it isn't an oil. Our 2000...
