Plugged hole on driver's side rear door rusting?

Is this a normal thing to have there? There isn't one on the passengers side, and doesn't seem to have a purpose. Also, what's the best way to take care of the little bit of rust? Make the hole a bit bigger, paint over it and seal it better? Thanks in advance.

People that are selling 4th gens and getting 5th gens, please state your reasons

I drove a 3rd gen, 5th gen, and both the V6 and V8 4th gens before I stumbled on my 08 V8 and bought it. I went so far as to negotiate a deal on a 5th gen, but couldn't bring myself to do it. The 5th gen is a combination of higher weight and an acceleration map that is far too conservative...

    255/75R17 with no lift

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/102272-4th-gen-suspension-options-faq.html First post in that thread. Looks like you need a 1" in the front. A spacer would probably be fine if you don't have the funds to do a proper lift but need new tires. I'm going to go OME once my current tires...

Why would all but Front L/R #2 speakers on 6 speaker system go out?

If the PO had a system in it and spliced the wires for an amp, or did a poor job of rewiring in the stock speakers back in... maybe the patch job wasn't very good?

    5th gen to 4th gen?

I think the only 4th gen that had a rear locker was the 09 Trail Edition, which I believe are all V6, and very rare. The 08-09 did make side curtain air bags standard though.

    2005 v6 swapped in a 2006 v8

You might also consider just picking up a used 2UZ V8, last I checked, you can get a running one for ~$1k

Worth upgrading to 2008 Sport V8 from 2006 Limited V6?

I think that's the right call.

4th Gen High Miles - Talk me out of it

I would pass, there's too much risk in giving up a car that you're familiar with to gamble on something with more than 100k additional miles on it. Keep an eye out for a V8 4th gen if you want, but I would look/wait for one with less miles than your current rig.

    New owner with a question

I have an SR5, and they are not backlit (though I wish they were).

Which fuse could be pulled to disable vehicle

You could always wire up a hidden fuel kill switch, but that still won't stop a tow truck.

Why I do not want a 5th gen

    Agree.

Why I do not want a 5th gen

I think the mapping of the acceleration also plays a role in the 5th gen feeling slower. You really have to lay into the pedal to get going. It's not like that on the 4th gen V6 or V8. As far as interior components, the tech is there which is nice, and the quality is fine (even good, by today's...

Why I do not want a 5th gen

I really like the 2014+ 5th gen, but near $40k for a new one OTD is a hard pill to swallow when you consider the downgraded interior components (though I like the layout), and same V6 carrying an extra 500 pounds. If someone offered me a straight up trade though, I wouldn't turn them down.

    Carfax Reliability

The only thing I can say is that checked and changed are not the same thing. Look for a sticker in the engine bay that gives a date and mileage regarding a timing belt change, it's usually on the air box.
