1997 - trouble starting after 6mo parked, new battery

Yes, it did start and run fine before I parked it. Well, fine, except for some steering/rods issues, but yes, it started fine. Well, here in Central Texas we do have a lot of squirrels, but I've never heard of them chewing on stuff. Interesting though. THANKS!

1997 - trouble starting after 6mo parked, new battery

Parked my 3rd Gen 4Runner for 6 months after I got a 5th Gen. Battery was toast, so I replaced it today. This is the video of trying to start it. Any advice (for an admittedly newb mechanic)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF7V951gNi0&feature=youtu.be Thanks!

    gas tank size?

I just put 16.3 gallons in my 1997 4Runner, after driving around 20 miles with the empty light coming on. I've never quite figured out how much fuel is left when the empty light comes on . . . .

    Uneven wear on tires

I have the same issue on a 1997 4Runner SR5 (approx 294,000 miles): substantial wear on inner edges of both front tires (although even more on the left front). Also, a lot of tire noise/hum on the road. Anyone have a sense of what other repairs on the front end need to be done with a 300k...

Can someone measure up the cargo area dimensions?

I frequently have a mountain bike (or two) in the back of my 3rd Gen (289K miles w/ transmission trouble). Also interested if the cargo space got shorter in length in the 4th Gen's. (I hope not). Thanks for the responses above in this thread.

Latch system for car seats in 3rd gen?

So, we just had a baby boy, and I'm still driving a 285K 1997 4Runner SR5! The middle lap belt is too long to get the Britax car seat snug--even with it adjusted all the way tight. Using the shoulder + lap strap, I don't see how to make it stay tight. Any advice?

    Odometer roll back

Just came across a 2002 4Runner with 107,000 miles. Definitely made me wonder. My 1997 has 285,000, and I feel like I don't even drive as much as most people I know. Is there anything I can do to try to verify that the 107,000 miles is correct? The guy says he has no earlier maintenance...
