3rd Gen T4R DIY Maintenance, Repair and Modification Videos

Big thanks to Tim and his camera guy for all these great videos! Used the belt replacement video to find out how to tighten my alt/PS/AC belts and eliminate an annoying squeak upon startup that had been plaguing my truck for a month or two. I never would have attempted it without such...

Anyone ever had P0446 AND C1201?

So I've done a lot of research on "good ole' P0446", which lead to me replacing the fuel cap and resetting the PCM (with no luck). From there I just kind of let it be as the sensors were good and I wasn't going to spend $$$ on replacing the charcoal canister (and didn't want to remove and...

    Good ol' P0446

Well it turns out the gas cap didn't do the trick for mine. Roughly 30 miles after resetting the ECU the CEL popped back up. I visually inspected the charcoal canister and it appeared to be in good condition, but I am going to remove it this coming weekend and do the 9V battery test to see...

    Good ol' P0446

I have the P0446 code and have now read through this entire thread (very helpful, thanks to everyone who's posted). I noticed my truck has an aftermarket "Stant" gas cap, so I think my first step is going to be replacing that with a factory Toyota gas cap and resetting the ECU. If that doesn't...

OEM skid plate. Where can I find one?

Rather than create a new thread I thought I'd bump this one. I have an 02 Sport but don't have my front skid plate and was looking into the Tacoma option. I found this for just over $100 but am curious about what additional fab work or brackets need to be created to make it work? Front Skid...

    DLR HELP! (running lights)

Do a lot of people just disable this? It seems somewhat outdated to run DRL's in halogen lights when you're surrounded by all these new LED strip DRL's on everything. It's only mildly annoying, but if it's as easy as removing that plug shown above I might consider it...

    Acceleration Hesitation at 3k rpms...

Spark plugs, definitely. Seen this posted a lot and had it happen to myself. Changed the plugs with factory and fixed it right away.

dumb question - check auto trans fluid when running?

You want to have it running, shift through each of the gears up and down (holding in each gear for 3-4 seconds) then put in park and check fluid level. that is what I was told at least. There is a "hot" and "cold" line on the dipstick, so I guess you could check either way, just be looking at...

    Storm Damage Dilemma (Pics)

Wow, you are very particular about your truck, proprs to you. Assuming it is down to bare metal and rust might be an issue I would either have a body shop sand it down and repaint (which shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred bucks tops) or find replacement parts at an auto yard somewhere...

    Trans flush round no.2

Right, this does the complete job of a "flush" by essentially draining and filling the entire trans, so it is the best of both worlds. I know there is a write-up on it in here somewhere. When a shop offers to flush your trans, it is usually using some kind of chemical agent or adding pressure to...

When it comes time for new tires I have already decided these are going on my truck. Hope they are abundant around here.

    $200 Birthday present?

I'd say floor liners and a Scan Gauge. My b-day is coming up to and I'm getting the wifey to buy me some new speakers for the fronts, will probably get the ScanGauge on my own dime here soon.

    (I think)"She's dead, Jim."

Yeah, I don't know that buying another "value" 4Runner would be in your best interest. Assuming nothing else is really wrong with this one, might be worth it to fix/replace the engine. Otherwise, you may be getting rid of one problem and buying into another.
