Yes you will need adapters at least for steering wheel controls. You can hard wire the rest if you choose, but an adapter makes more sense. Be aware that adapters do not power then antenna booster and usually the instructions make no mention of this. If you want to hear AM/FM radio stations...

Don't assume that brand name has anything to do with "best". Diameter, length and strength should be what you're considering. Amsteel is the brand for industry standard for applications like tug boats, etc. Masterpull is the brand I prefer.

Not sure what the "color matching" wire is, but any auto parts store has rolls of stranded automotive wire in different colors. The wire in the yotatech link above is from Napa. Do not use solid wire from Home Depot or the like.

Either one The brake controller not only applies the brakes, it controls how hard the brakes are applied, depending on how hard you're braking the 4Runner, if it's going downhill vs uphill etc.

Personally I would make the brakes functional. That weight doesn't sound like a lot, but in a panic maneuver, those brakes can make the difference between stopping and ending up in a ditch. You'll also need a trailer brake controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy is my favorite.

What phattyduck said. You can't create the two wires used for brakes and battery charging via using an adapter. If your pop-up doesn't have electric brakes (many don't) and you don't care about charging the camper's 12V battery, change out the plug on the camper to a 4 pin setup.
