    Broken rear axle update

I haven’t been through all the records we got when we purchased it so I’m not sure if this repair is in the pile, the previous owner looks to have had all his work done at a local dealership and a local repair shop, Houston area btw, if I come up with the actual paperwork for the repair I will...

    Broken rear axle update

Thought I’d start a new thread on what I’ve found so far on the axle and it ain’t good, a prime example of why I do all of my own work no matter what it takes to get it done right, When your stupid enough to start hacking at an axle bearing with a torch you need to find another line of work, and...

    Broken rear axle, ideas

So what's the opinion on aftermarket axles, doorman, dana etc. I'm not real keen on wrecking yard axles simply because who knows what abuse it's suffered in the past twenty yrs, or just go ahead and drop 450$ on an oem axle hope for another twenty yrs of service ?

I’m gonna just say my axle is a fluke I suppose, it’s been wheeling around for twenty yrs and no harm was done thankfully, im enclosing a pic of how it sets now, we did add some Mickey Thompson classics and bfg’s, the slightly more offset, heavier tire and loaded down with gear may have just...

Things like this is the very reason I do all of my own wrenching on all of my vehicles and equipment...

    Broken rear axle, ideas

I haven't gone through all the records but I believe the broken, dirvers side, is the original nachi bearing with a national seal, the pass side has both a national bearing and seal so I believe both sides have been into before, I also noticed that neither axle appears to have a retaining ring...

I have to totally agree with you on that point, Houston potholes can be way more brutal than the trail at times .

A little background first, the wife searched for a the right 3rd gen for quite a while before she found this ride, a one owner 98 limited 4wd, well documented service records, lived its life in the city, we acquired it with around 160k on the clock, we've owned it a little over a year and put...
