Thanks for the feedback. I plan to go on genuine trails, up, say, to intermediate level, but no rock climbing or SeattleMike-like efforts. Mostly, I just want to get out into nature, probably on established off-road trails.

Alright, assume the same driver drives both. Where can he go with the TE but not the other 4wd 4runner?

Was all set to get a TE when it turned out I had a problem with the seats due to an old injury. So I might look at 4th or 5th generation 4wd 4runners, assuming their seats work better for me. I was wondering where a TE can go that other 4wd 4runners can't.

Looking at a 2011 TE today. Said to have KDSS. Is there a way for me to visually confirm that? Thanks.

Trails with KDSS and no Nav are hard to find, so if that is what you want, I would jump on it, particularly given the issues now in Japan.

Try google, rather than the site's search engine. The search engines on these forums are almost always terrible.

I'll definitely go to dealer #2, if dealer# 1 drops the ball. Doubt it though. There was another dealer who had an internet price about the same as dealer #2, but then it turned out it was plus about $1000 for freight. Give me a break.

Well, should own a TE by the end of the week with KDSS, nav (which I did not want, but seemingly cannot avoid), and (I assume, because that is how they tend to come) a sunroof. The price is $37,700, which I negotiated via Truecar. A dealer I had been talking to off and on called me last night...

In general, I agree with the other posts, it's cheaper, if more annoying, to keep your current truck. The only other thing I would factor in is how many miles it has and how long would drive it. If you will drive it until the wheels fall off, keep it. If only, say, to 100,000 miles, it could...

If you are going to install one yourself, you might want to check on warranty implications. I had a different car company's service depart tell me they would not install it and because it would not be stock, the warranty might be affected....

In the market for a TE. I could buy now, but probably won't do much off-roading until the fall. Made me wonder if I should wait for a 2012. Any guesses when they will come out?

PS. I have a Ford Escape with which I am happy and which I would keep if I was just going to drive on pavement. For that it is a better value.

I am in the market for a 2011 myself. Why? TE and 115v plug. Also, the way used Toyotas are usually priced, and the deal you can usually get via truecar on new, it makes more sense to buy new if you can afford it.
