Have you tried short pressing the ODO reset button? Or holding it down? What about the "DISP" button?

I don't own a 2014 TE, but isn't the compass in the display above the 2 vents in the center stack? On the SR5 there is only a clock in the same location, so it would make sense to put the compass in the multi-info display on the instrument cluster.

Are you saying getting rid of the 4Runner TE equipped with KDSS or removing it from a trail model... Because that hasn't happened. People have removed entirely the XREAS system from a Limited model though.

It's completely normal. It is the EVAP system running a leak test. . It occurs after the ignition switch is turned off and the fuel has cooled enough (several hours) to run the test.
