About using a gear oil for rear diff: if you use 85w140 will it reduce your mpg vs using 75w90?
Here in Mozambique, the guy who is purported to be THE diff guy, says to use 85w140 in our vehicles. However, the guys who rebuilt my engine in SA and have done some other services and repairs for me...
Thank you much! Will go take a look a the lists now. About two hours or so ago I thought of asking if anyone knew of DIY build/plans. I can cut the steel and I do know of a very good welder. Thanks again...really probably the only way for me to get this done reasonably.
New Bumper
Hey All:
Don't want to hijack, if you think I should I'll post as new thread...
I'm looking to get new bumpers front and back. Right now I have stock. I recently upgraded suspension to Dobinson's heavier duty spring and shock set up all the way round in anticipation of additional...
No specific info on the shock length from Dobinsons (will check). But David at Dobinsons (works with Mike) had said I didn't need any additional stuff so was taking that as square advice. Once I started reading a few more build threads I began to think maybe I might need to consider "some"...
I have a 16" now. I did mention the size of my Generals up top (265/70 R16), but in this thread the 17" have also been discussed. What is the 115T number you mentioned earlier? I'm sure I've been told somewhere along the way, just forgetful.
Thanks again.
Cheers!
I'm going to get a Dobinsons package for my 99 Surf/4R. I will get their springs and shocks all way round. It will be 50mm/2" lift according to the website. I spoke with a rep and they said it will not need any additional parts to compensate for the lift.
Anyone have thoughts about this matter...
3 ply reply
Thank you for this info. Will be very helpful. Will see what's available in the channels down here. One thing that's been difficult here is that it's very hot all the time and I think the longevity of the tire takes a hit. I do pavement a lot for long distances mostly, but some of...
3ply issue
Am down in Mozambique...curious about 3 ply sidewalls. I've never thought I needed it on my other stateside trucks, but a guy in these parts mentioned it a few years back and said it's a necessity here...just a month after I had purchased my General Grabber ATs 265-70 R16 (which...
Thanks. I'll do another search on the forum for these units. I'm not sure I need one. But I like the idea that out in the middle of nowhere here in Africa I might be able to see some problem arising. Seems like an "ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" in this case. You've been modding...
RE: Ultragauge
Can you tell me about the Ultragauge vs. the Scangauge2? Any particular benefit for these vehicles getting one or the other? I return to US in Dec and think I'll get one to bring back. This kind of stuff is not cheap over here. I found info on a hypermiler sight that compared...
