the diagram came from factory service manual 96-02. Lube? that could work, why didn't I think of that? I still have my old one, I'll lube it to see if the squeak goes away.

I just replaced my blower motor for the same reason. The blower motor is located under the glove box. The only thing you have to remove is cowl side trim to access a bolt.

Over the weekend, I drove from LA area to Mammoth Lakes. On the way up, I got 19.3mpg and got 22.2mpg coming back. Mostly going 70-75MPH. Easily got over 300 miles and took little over 14 gallons to fill it.

There could be number of things including low refrigerant, drive belt, magnetic clutch, compressor, pressure switch, thermistor, etc.. Can you describe other symptoms?

since you said the a/c blows cold air, I don't think you're low on refrigerant. if it was, you wouldn't get cold air. i'm thinking electrical; something is causing the magnetic clutch to turn on/off rapidly. maybe the clutch itself is bad. I don't know.
