Shuddering in 2nd while turning tight in a parking lot

Testing for CV clunk is done a slow speed. In 4wd, it should do it more than in 2wd.

Shuddering in 2nd while turning tight in a parking lot

If it’s a clunking on hard turns, it could be a bad CV.

    Bump Steer

Please Explain what you are considering bump steer. I had a lot of wandering, especially on road undulations. It was due to most of the front control arm bushings being worn out. I have also has a swimming feeling when I first lifted my 4runner due the the rear panhard bar still being in the...

    Planning rear axle swap

The 3rd gen 4runner rear axle width is 59.5" WMF to WMF (wheel mounting flange). I don't know what your sterling is but most super duty axles are 68.3" wmf/wmf. That's wide compared to the front. It sounds like you have future plans for a front solid axle swap? If so, do that first. You will...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

After waiting on parts, my sas is 99% complete. The front is a 4wheel underground 3 link, 14” Radflo coilovers and a Diamond axle. The rear is a self designed 3 link with 12” Fox shocks.

    Gerdo's rig build thread

A few updates. Snorkel, I have broken a few rear upper control arms. My theory is the the rubber allows most of the flex but then that bottoms out, the rod starts twisting. This twisting stresses the factory welds. I have modified (with Glen) my stock UCAs by welding a threaded shaft to one...

Rarest 3rd gen of them all?

True. Sport, manual trans, sunroof, no elocker, cloth interor and original owner and it's still running great. Probably 10,000 miles offroad, 240,000 on the original engine and trans. ARB locker a few years ago. (The Highlander name was slang for the Sport as far as I know. It was called The...

    ToyTec Rear Long Travel LCAs

So after some road time, you can't tell that they are there. Nothing negative, no noise, no vibrations. One off-road trip today. Hard to tell on this trip if I get more free travel. I have some poly upper control arm bushings coming so after I install them, I'll take the rig to a ramp and see...

    write up: ADD 2wd LOW

This is a great mod. I did it years ago and can't believe how much I drive, offroad, in 2Lo/2wd. Also, I have switched in and out of 2wd/4wd while moving with zero issues.

That is 30* on each end, times two gives you 60*. I doubt if you need more than that.

    ToyTec Rear Long Travel LCAs

The stock skidplate does stick out more than it should by the driveshaft. Running a panhard bar drop helps keep the driveshaft out of the skid. (Shameless plug) my replacement skid is tucked tight to the tank and eliminates the interference.

    ToyTec Rear Long Travel LCAs

The limiting factor will be the shock length. More than the "long travel" I need to get the rear to flex freely and not bind with the stock rubber bushings. I still need to deal with the upper rubbers. Also my lower bushings were shot. If you have installed rear springs without loosening the...
