Shuddering in 2nd while turning tight in a parking lot

I just went and took my truck in for an auto car wash and was turning around sharply in a parking lot in 2nd and noticed a little bit of shuddering. Fearing clutch slipping I tried to replicate this in straightaway, gassing it in 3rd and 4th with no symptoms. Went on a side street and it did it briefly again taking a left turn in 2nd. Went into a parking lot that was empty and tried doing tight turns in 2nd and kind of got it to do it again but I was really having turn sharp and was getting a lot of body roll. Couldn't replicate it again after that and couldn't replicate it in any other gears. Even went to a little dirt and gravel spot by my house and tooled around in 4lo a bit with no symptoms. I don't think I was low enough rpms for it to be close to stalling. Also I don't think I ever saw the revs shoot up briefly in any of this testing. I thought maybe water from the wash but that seems rather implausible, I didn't get the undercarriage wash and I have full skids so the chance of water making into my bell housing seems slim and should have evaporated off rather quickly. Clutch was also biting great when I was wheeling on Saturday. Any other ideas on what this could be? Any other symptoms I should watch out for? Truck is running great other than this and this is the first whiff I've gotten of any drivetrain issues since I bought it (other than the axles seals that I did a while back).

Shuddering like wheel hop? Or the kind you get when your engine is close to stalling?

The power steering pump is driven off the engine, which means that when you do sharp turns your going to lower RPM. So maybe the extra demand from the power steering brings the engine rpm down enough to make it shudder even if you have the throttle somewhat open. Purely a guess.

If it were something to do with the drive line (differentials, CVs) I'd expect it to be replicated in first gear as well. I wouldn't worry about it if it's that hard to reproduce.

If it’s a clunking on hard turns, it could be a bad CV.

Damnit that was lower on my list of other things it could be. I just did those too like 4 months ago. Went with vatozone duralasts so it's not the end of the world I can just swap them with the lifetime warranty and I can probably do that in 1-1.25 hours. I plan on rebooting the OEMs I pulled off anyway at some point and having the duralasts as trail spares or maybe the other way around since I want to purposefully keep that as a weak link in my front end drive train so that I don't break stuff that is harder to fix.

Any other ways I can purposefully test that theory besides attempting to flip my truck in a parking lot lol? I don't have a front sway right now.

Edit: also I don't appear to be experiencing any other common issues like clicking or any feedback in the wheel. The feedback I felt was in the gas pedal.

Well I'll just have to keep paying attention while driving and see if any other symptoms crop up or if this was just some weird fluke. At least I think the clutch likely isn't a culprit. The parts are pretty cheap for that but man does it look like an involved job and I would need to find someone with a transmission jack. Something I definitely want to learn to do at some point though.

Low speed hard turns. You here click click click. Make sure your lug nuts are tight and suspect the cv joints...:(

Well I've got more data now. It's clearly related to going to a car wash and had nothing to do with hard turning. It's a hesitation when I'm around 1500-1750 revs and under load (this time it was whole going uphill in 4th at about 32mph) and it goes away when things dry. I pulled my air filter and it was barely wet so that's not it when though I have the deckplate mod. I have a feeling it has to do with when I cleaned my maf I somewhat damaged to bracket where it attaches to the air box so it doesn't seal quite flush to the air box. Does that theory make sense?

Why are you messing with the air box?

Those mods don't work. The air flow is metered with the MAF.

I will never understand that. You mess with the air you have to mess with the fuel. Unless your running stand alone computers to adjust the air and fuel settings. Your sadly wasting your time and energy air box mods.

Even the k and n filters are metered by the MAF sensor.

This is so you get the best air to fuel ratio possible.

Believe it or not the engineers knew what they were doing when they built these efi systems.

If your after power supercharge the 4 runners and premium gas. :)

PO did the mod. I've been looking for an unmodified air box.

What year? 1996 to 2000? They are harder to find at times. People snag them for the MAF sensor and mostly just take the entire box.

It's a 98 so it's the older style MAF. Definitely harder to find. To be fair I haven't looked around that much yet but after this I'm going to step that up to higher priority. Only other thing I can think of is water getting into my ECU harness somewhere but it seems like that would cause an issue different from just hesitation. Makes a lot of sense that the water is throwing off the MAF just enough to deliver less fuel and cause low rev hesitation under high load.

Or you're pulling in too much water from the modified air box. Thus messing with you. I doubt it's the wiring but possible...:]
