Front diff/CV/axle bearings...what to look for

Fixed! Turns out it was *not* coming from the front end (sounds can be deceiving as we all know) but rather a bent rear axle. With COVID, limited time/space/tools and a desire to support local business I went ahead and had my local Boulder CO Toyota guys (Independent Motors) do the work, which...

Door lock problem--fix in last post

My stock key was badly worn, would only work on one door. I was fearing that the previous owner/seller had swapped one or two lock cylinders but not all of them, but had Toyota cut a new key off the VIN and blessed be, the key now works for everything. Fingers crossed for you!

Front diff/CV/axle bearings...what to look for

Yep, 100% related to vehicle speed so it's not related to engine or tranny. And not affected by throttle input. I *think* it's CV joint related, either worn parts that were only half-repaired by PO or some bearings in there that are just tired, looking to identify the usual suspects but...

Front diff/CV/axle bearings...what to look for

Been there since I got the truck a year ago. It's slower than wheel speed.

Need a Burlwood Center Dash Bezel

Search Craigslist in Boulder CO. I know there are a few around here currently listed as of yesterday for less than $200. BTW if you only need the center dash bezel piece PM me and I might go in on one with you and ship to you. I need the vents and clock only (for a 2000)

Front diff/CV/axle bearings...what to look for

All, I have an '00 SR5 with 220k and I'm in the process of fixing everything, and there's one nagging problem I need your help diagnosing (or at least knowing where to start): -I get an oscillating whirr/roar sound that corresponds with wheel speed. Whoom. Whoom. A few times a second at...

Torque Values for Lower Balljoint Bolts - Very Important - Please Read

I had a shop do my LBJ's due to a lack of garage/tools at that point. Is there an easy way to figure out which bolts I have by sight? This is on a 2000 SR5. Maybe just upgrade to some grade 8 bolts to be safe?

    89T4runner's 2000 Silver Sport

Nice build! I've got the same truck and I'm just getting started with the fun stuff (OME's/Bilstiens/Ko2 265/75's) after doing mostly maintenance and repairs for the past year. Question: how much did the bumper change your ride height up front or could you adjust the Fox coilovers to compensate?

Help choosing 3" lift. Thinking of 881/906 with Bilstein 5100.

I just installed this exact setup on my '00 with stock bumpers. Also did the diff drop kit though everyone says it's not really necessary. As for the ride quality, maybe my standards are different than some of the other posters but I find the ride quality to be a big improvement over my...

    Sudden, random electrical death?

Alternator brushes added to the list along with a thorough test of the unit. Turns out my wiring harness and connections from the battery back has a ton of corrosion in it with the insulation swelled to 2x the normal size, so I'm replacing that, which is not particularly cheap to do as it...

    Sudden, random electrical death?

Thanks all for the responses. Swapping out battery terminals/checking grounds tomorrow (was on my list anyway) and checking out the 'fuse link' I think it's called, as that seems like a good thing to check as well. Alternator is now on my list too, it's probably the original, but I'd think I...

    Sudden, random electrical death?

After trouble-free driving for quite some time, my truck decided to randomly die at a green light today, a few times, in a disturbing manner. It happened when I hit the gas after a red light, and felt like the electricity was cut for a moment and the truck was bucking, the ABS light came on...

    Parts shortages coming me thinks?

Apple adjusted their forecast down due to Corona virus. I work for a company/industry that does a lot of business in China (like many of us I imagine) and there are definitely signs that manufacturing and logistics in China will suffer for a while, which will probably affect product availability...

    I Got a MISFIRE P0301

I had a very similar experience with my own truck just last weekend. IMO if the plug wire connector breaks off in the boot and is stuck in the plug there's a good chance it was badly degraded where the connector clamps to the wire, either partially or completely severed and arc'ing inside the...

    CEL/idle/fuel fill up issue?

They were worn, for sure. None of them LOOKED gross but probably were.
