A/D pillar maximum load / metal thickness.

I had a bit of a brainwave the other day and realized that I might be able to use my camping hammock inside my 4Runner, which would make for a really compact and likely super comfy on-the-road sleeping setup. After fiddling with the seats and testing for length, it looks doable if I hang it from...

    Fusible link funk.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about, and it certainly looks like just a wire on mine. Then again, the clamps and terminations at the clamps are quite clearly not stock (and are pretty lousy). If it's just a wire, that's fine -- I'll pull it, step up to thicker wire, and solder + crimp a...

    Fusible link funk.

Part of the problem there is that I already took the truck down to the dealership -- I had a few questions about that and needed parts for other stuff anyway. Turns out they didn't have most of the parts and gave me what I'm thinking is bad info on the truck even after looking at it. For...

    Fusible link funk.

I've got an annoying problem with my 99 Limited that I suspect may be a bad termination or bum link between my battery's positive terminal and the main fuse box. Possibly a starter issue too, but I've already ordered terminals and the plunger to do address that angle. Here's what's going on...

    New 4Runner Tune-Up Checklist

Thanks for the tips. Quite a bit of it was stuff I screened for when buying -- transmission fluid is still relatively fresh, and the radiator was done around the time the timing belt / water pump were serviced. No pink milkshake on this rig, I was watching for it (pretty sure I passed on one...

    New 4Runner Tune-Up Checklist

I recently picked up a '99 Limited that seems to be in pretty good shape (though not really "pretty" shape, but it's mostly dings, scrapes, scratches and such on the interior). After driving it a couple weeks, it's now officially due an oil change, so I figure it's about time to make a list of...

    2016 Toyota - First Post

I like the color. Looks like it'll hide a bit of dirt without looking too bad, and a 4Runner just seems wrong if it hasn't got a bit of dirt on it!

137K isn't too shabby at all, I think I saw maybe 4 in the 7 or so months I was looking that were under that and weren't super shady. Looks nice, making me a bit jealous with the dings mine has!

    Looking for floor mat

On the subject of floormats, I was reviewing maintenance records from mine that the PO provided and noticed that the dealership evidently checks condition on the floor mats? Seems an odd detail to look at on a broad mostly mechanical inspection, anyone know why they note them?

    Use that diff-lock

The extent of using mine, so far, was to prove it worked. ...it didn't, at first. Guess the PO hadn't used it in years and years. Cycled it a few times and it slowly began engaging faster. Got half a mind to crack the diff and feed it fresh lube. We'll see how it feels about locking up after a...

What Music do You Listen to Wheeling?

I'm a big fan of the radio, mostly for local color. Got to repair my antenna though, it got bent and the plastic part broke. Motor still seems to work, but in the meantime I just pulled it out and called it good enough.

How many miles on your 4runner?

Mine's a hair below 160K, '99 limited. Good condition on the major mechanical components, as far as I can tell, but the interior's a bit rough and it's murder on gas so I think I need to do a big tuneup job.

    Showing my 1999 4Runner

Sharp! I'm more a fan of the older looks than the newer myself, which is why I was pretty happy that the 3rd gens were pretty much the best spot to get what I was going for at a reasonable price. How'd it handle the towing?

New here,3rd Gen t4r, Queens NY.

Congrats on finding the one you wanted. I had the opposite problem -- was looking for a '99-00 Limited with a rear locker (wanted the 4W on the fly + locker combo), kept seeing manuals that either were or could be sweet trail rigs.

    Finally got my rig

Welcome to the club! Looks sharp, I agree on the black/white choice -- snazzy combo.
