Gear ratios for the 5th gen 5spd

I don't check in every day and I miss things once in a while. My 4Runner order has been postponed due to a potential for me to be moving for a new job so I don't have a lot to chat about yet.

Gear ratios for the 5th gen 5spd

I updated the entries. It calls out the 4Runner on that transmission now. :) Though it does seem quite wide because of all the information I added. I'm going to see about narrowing it back down...

I hear bad things about these tires!

I have a similar tale to tell. I too grew up in Iowa and moved to the Fort Worth area (via California) and found myself back in Iowa (via Austin and OKC). My stock Jeep Cherokee with similar stock tires to every other SUV out there did alright in the snow so long as you knew the limitations of...

If routine maintenance is performed...how long do they last?

Regular maintenance is the key. Follow all the guidelines on oil changes and major service items. A buddy of mine did a very long overdue flush and fill on his transmission and the new fluid with the new cleaning agents cleaned out the built up gunk around the worn out seals that was holding...

got rid of 5th gen - came back to 4th gen

The one thing I miss about my old Jeep Cherokee was the transfer case that had both part time and full time 4 hi. I could do full time on the road and enjoy the benefits of AWD in winter conditions but then when I needed it on the trail, the part time gave me the much better traction. My truck...

What would you do with these welds?

Looks like a lot of contamination in those welds. Grind em out and do them again. Those won't hold for long.

Give Your Opinion: Top 5 Mods?

My top 5 things to make a trail worthy vehicle: 1. Winch - when nothing else can get you (or someone else on the trail) out of a bad stuck. 2. Tires - The tread of a tire makes a huge difference off road. Size also helps as long as you regear your differential to match the change in tire...

    How'd you find T4R.ORG?

I was looking for info before I committed to ordering one. Forums are a good place to find some of that information so I googled "4Runner forum".

Do you drive with a gun?

I don't leave a gun in my vehicle but I'm licensed to carry concealed in 38 states so I have one with me when I drive, especially when I travel.

    Hahaha

Anyone who knows how to drive on snow could see that he could have easily backed out of that spot and got going. But for some reason he kept trying to drive straight out of it. And he kept flooring it thinking that more wheel spin would somehow help. He's an idiot who has no idea how to drive...

    Need Advice!

What's the difference between a 4x4 and a rental car? A rental car WILL make it over that obstacle. There's a reason used rental cars are cheaper than regular used cars. And they're still overpriced. Don't take the chance.

    Cold air intake...really?

For cars 10-20 years ago, they were a good idea and you could get a small bump in performance putting one on. But that was before car companies figured out how to design a quality air intake that drew in cold air through a big enough tube and air filter.

    Cold air intake...really?

Basically, unless you're really pushing the engine hard at high RPMs a lot, you won't see much benefit at all from an aftermarket CAI, and only if the factory intake is restrictive in some way. From all I've read, the 4Runner's intake is pretty well designed already and adding an aftermarket...
