What's the difference between a 4x4 and a rental car? A rental car WILL make it over that obstacle. There's a reason used rental cars are cheaper than regular used cars. And they're still overpriced. Don't take the chance.

For cars 10-20 years ago, they were a good idea and you could get a small bump in performance putting one on. But that was before car companies figured out how to design a quality air intake that drew in cold air through a big enough tube and air filter.

Basically, unless you're really pushing the engine hard at high RPMs a lot, you won't see much benefit at all from an aftermarket CAI, and only if the factory intake is restrictive in some way. From all I've read, the 4Runner's intake is pretty well designed already and adding an aftermarket...
