Help Solve Electrical Gremlin in '98 T4R

My '98 T4R 3.4V6, Auto 4WD developed an electrical problem, requiring that I remove the Tail Relay in order to drive it (during daylight hours only!). With the Tail Relay in, weird intermittent things happen, not only do the parking lights stay on when turned off, but sometimes the starter motor...

Parking Lights on when Turned Off, Starter Keeps Running

I replaced the tail light relay with a matched one from Advance Auto. Could a bad tail light relay cause the starter motor to keep running when the engine has started and cut out when lights are turned on and then shut the motor off when lights are turned off, with ignition switch still on?

Parking Lights on when Turned Off, Starter Keeps Running

I forgot to mention I pulled the tail light relay out and everything worked normally. except no parking lights, head lights, brake lights and turn signals work, so it has to be driven in daylight...

Parking Lights on when Turned Off, Starter Keeps Running

This is my first post. My 4Runner has an electrical gremlin that is puzzling. Came home from work, parked, shut car off, turned off all lights, parking lights stayed on. An hour or two later, saw parking lights on, switch was turned off, so I started it and the started motor was running along...

    !60,000 mile maintenance

My '98 SR5 has 250k and I got it back when it had 75k. I have never changed the trans/transfer case/differential fluids. I put Mobil1 synthetic oil and ext range filter in the engine and leave it for a long, long time. If the ads guarentee the performance for 15k in extreme climates, I figure it...

Going to look at a 3rd Gen today

Even at the asking price, it seems like a good deal with the low mileage, if there are no real issues with it.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Last inspection, my '98 had a small hole in the same spot, just ahead of the trailing arm on passenger side, but the small locally owned garage here in Virginia referred me to another garage that was known for making quality patches, so for 100, got it patched and inspected. If I had taken...

    Some good news...

Wow, what a crash, and the paramedic helped out after going through all that! So deserving of a new 4Runner, thanks to Toyota for that unexpected present!

4R from North, *Accessories build time.

Very nice looking metal work. Your patterns remind me of the Intersections and Developements class I took in the drafting program I went through 40 years ago.

How long have you owned your 3rd gen?

    I got my '98 SR5 back in '07 with 75k, now it has 250k.

    What else do you drive?

'21 Rav4 XLE, '04 Pontiac Vibe (Toyota Matrix) with 217k.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Hey, it allowed me to take a trailer load of trash to the dump and now my wife is happy! It was well worth the risk driving 20 miles. Now I will look at replacing the radiator!

Advice on new Rack and Pinion?

The intermediate shaft has a flex joint that can get real stiff and feel "lumpy" when steering into a parking spot or making a sharp turn, which I assume puts a load on the PS pump. There are some posts on here about that issue. I read one where the old one was dropped on floor during...

Advice on new Rack and Pinion?

My all original 250k '98 SR5 steering would get stiff in cold weather and the power steering would squeal like crazy pulling into a parking spot, and I was told it was a stiff joint on the intermediate steering shaft. I read somewhere to soak the joint with a penetrating type oil, maybe not good...
