    2002 4Runner SR5 2WD - Beautiful Condition in Austin TX

Up for sale is my 2002 Toyota 4Runner. It is an SR5 2WD with automatic transmission and has 100,500 miles. All maintenance is up to date including the full timing belt service done at 94K miles along with all other scheduled maintenance at its proper interval at the Toyota dealership. It has...

Why 4Runner shakes like it's coming apart over bumps

Glad to hear it you got it figured out John. That is the great thing about these vehicles, they are pretty DIY friendly. I agree, if you dont have air tools a good electric impact gun is worth the money all day long. If you plan on doing anymore work on your 4Runner or cars in the future a...

New Member and a Purchase Question

It appears to be a clean looking rig. As long as all the maintenance has been done I would not hesitate to pay $8000 - $8500 for it. The leather looks good in the one picture of it and the paint and body looks good too. As others have said, do your due diligence and if it passes make them an...

Done a lot of work, rear end still clunks! GRRR

Problem Solved! The guys at Round Rock Toyota got it figured out. According to the service guy, when the hitch was installed whoever installed it knocked one of the bumper alignment brackets out of orientation. It also messed up a thick piece of felt like material that sits between the...

B&M 70264 Transmission Cooler Install *PICS*

Thanks Nash. Another forum member PM'd with the same comment. I am going to take another look at it this weekend. Since I have plenty of room and trans hose I don't forsee a big issue with rotating it so the ports are facing towards the driver side.

Done a lot of work, rear end still clunks! GRRR

Small Update: Round Rock Toyota worked on my T4R off and on all day Saturday. They fully agree there is something wrong on the passenger rear side of the vehicle. However as of late Saturday evening they have not been able to determine to the cause. Two master mechanics were left scratching...

B&M 70264 Transmission Cooler Install *PICS*

I know this topic has been covered quite a bit but here is my take on it to give others more ideas and to show once again how easy it is to do. After spending time here on the forum and reading countless “strawberry milkshake” horror stories I decided to install an external trans cooler last...

Done a lot of work, rear end still clunks! GRRR

There are no 4WD shops that are open on the weekend so I made an appointment at the local Toyota dealership to let them try and figure it out. I will ask them to check everything mentioned above but at this point I am just too tired to mess with it anymore. This evening I am going to switch...

Done a lot of work, rear end still clunks! GRRR

I am not getting a whine or anything from either end of the vehicle. I jumped up and down on the trailer hitch and jacked up the rear a little to see if it moved with some weight on it, nothing. Its nice and tight. I had my 4Runner in the shop few weeks ago to let them look at the rear brakes...

Done a lot of work, rear end still clunks! GRRR

The drive to work this morning proved what I already knew last night, I am still at square 1. The only thing I have improved is the rear spring sag and it rides better going over bumps, its just the exit/fall off that is horrible. No modern vehicle should ride like this and it is down right...

Done a lot of work, rear end still clunks! GRRR

I have tried jumping up and down on the bumper, pressing against the hatch door, and shaking all the suspension components, nothing moves or squeaks. I am only able to replicate while driving as it seems it needs the weight of the vehicle to create the issue. Since we were blessed with a light...

Done a lot of work, rear end still clunks! GRRR

Thanks Strraynge. Advance Auto Parts has the Monroe Sensa-trac shocks in stock for $43/ea. I know Amazon has them for $36 but read reviews that people have recieved them without the bushings so I am going to pick them up at Advance today. If possible this evening I am going to remove the...

    Weird start issue

Sounds like you just had a tank of bad gas. It took some time for it to work itself out but now things seem to be good. If it ever happens again start with a bottle for octane booster or fuel system cleaner.

    Weird start issue

Had you just filled up with gas when the hard starting happened? I doubt the rain outside had anything to do with making your vehicle start easier. How many miles are on your rig? When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Its possible your pump might be getting weak or a connection...

    Nose dive while braking

My '02 SR5 was very front biased when I got it. I hate dealing with drums so I had a local shop clean them and adjust them up. It helped a lot with everyday mild to moderate braking. However if I slam on them the front will squat down and the wheels will lock up. I think you are on the right...
