The headunit does stick out somewhat. But on mine, i'm using the double din brackets on each side of the headunit, so everything fits. Drilling holes on the stock bracket might work, just make sure there is enough room behind the alpine unit since it will be further back into the dash.
I have the iva-w505 installed in my 2004 4runner. It is a very tight install, especially with all the wires in the back. Make sure your wires are neat in the back behind the unit(this was the main problem...too many wires all jumbled up , damn alpine) and do not tighten the bolts(keep slightly...
I finally installed the eclipse avn 6600 to my cousins 4runner SR5 with no problems now. I found out no wires have to be cut. The wires that are causing the check engine light to turn off is on the 4runner oem harness that contains the steering wheel controls. In the beginning i plugged this...

which optima yellow top battery did you install? did you have to make any modifications to make it fit? any help would be appreciated thanks!
Looking to buy an optima yellow top battery to replace the stock 4runner one. Does any one know if any optima battery will fit in the stock location without any modifications?
I won't have a chance to try the fix until the weekend. I will keep everyone posted.

I have the alpine iva-w505. It has the best picture quality, especially for DVDs. Only gripe is that it is a pain in the ass to install due to the number of wires in the back. Especially if you add more options like HD radio or Sat radio. I had the eclpise avn-6600 before...easy to install...
JBL system is not fun to upgrade....had to rewire all speaker wires! Also had to splice into factory wiring harness for power connections for aftermarket stereo. Avoid JBL system! Jusy my 2 cents!
i have the avn 6600...i followed the instructions from the "norgetech" link for setting up the speed and reverse wire...they work perfect...i have the 4runner se 2004...

Does anyone know of a good place to mount a cross-over inside the front door panel? I can't seem to find a place for it. Its a cross-over module for Infinity 6.5 component speakers.
