The Car Care Nut and Turbos

I have an '07 Volvo with a 2.5 L turbo 5 cylinder. 233k miles and counting, not one turbo issue. Only special maintenance I did was full synthetic oil, which I would do in any vehicle that I owned. Was never too picky about letting it run for 30 seconds before shutting it off, during normal...

4Runner OR vs Bronco Heritage- which to buy?

When I got my 4Runner in 2019, I was also looking at JKU's. I REALLY wanted the Wrangler, they're so cool and have so much potential. The 4R was not nearly as desirable to me. I decided to be an adult and look at needs vs wants, and even the guys on Wrangler Forum told me the 4R was better...

Question on Manual, or Electronic Transfer Case

I bought mine as an appliance, it seems so strange to me to buy one as a "toy" while there are so many other fun vehicles available. But your money, so you do you.

Shopping for a new vehicle, 4Runner vs Grand Highlander Hybrid vs ??

Sounds like you're doing your due diligence. Personally, I never recommend the 4R to anyone not needing off-road or extreme all-weather capability. I feel like there are a lot of compromises in ride, handling, NVH, and economy made when choosing the 4R. If you're using it off-road, or as a...

Question on Manual, or Electronic Transfer Case

If this is just a toy that's barely going to be driven and not at all off-roaded, I'm not understanding why you'd want a 4Runner. There's nothing special about the 4Runner just driving on pavement, reality is you'll enjoy LOOKING at it more than driving it. For a non daily driven TOY, get a...

Warn 10K Winch for ~$300 After Rebate (Still Available, Rebate Ends 15Dec)

Exactly! I was thinking the same thing about selling the cable and fairlead.

Warn 10K Winch for ~$300 After Rebate (Still Available, Rebate Ends 15Dec)

Mine will be arriving Monday. I went with the 10k model, going to mount it to a Bud built plate. I'm going to ditch the wire rope ASAP though.

    Brake calipers

I ended up replacing both of my front calipers back in July. I didn't realize I was going to need to replace them till I'd already started the brake job, I had only been planning on pads and rotors. I wanted to get it back together that day, so AutoZone was the closest place, they had them in...

One year as a 4Runner owner

Right on! My 2013 is at 163K and runs great, no major issues and very few minor ones.

Do all aftermarket skid plates delete these parts?

The RCI allows you to keep that stuff. I have all 3 RCI skids (,engine, trans, tcase) and didn't have to remove any components for the install. The negative to the RCI front skid is that while Toyota claims 9.6" of ground clearance, I have a little under 8" of clearance under the skid with...

    Any Mountain Bikers on Here?

Ooh, just seeing this post now. I've been riding for years on and off, basically since the mid-90s when I was a kid. Current ride is a 2022 Ibis Ripmo AF that I bought last fall. Boring looking bike, but I love riding it, it makes me feel like a hero. I can't believe how good this thing climbs...

    Hidden winch setups?

For those running hidden winches, what's your setup? I want to add a hidden winch to my 2013, and I'm looking at different options. Right now I think the bud built hidden mounting plate is at the top of the list, I like that it doesn't require any cutting of the front bumper which makes it...

Back to a 4Runner, maybe... & Tire size don't hate

I don't think the fender openings are any different. Might just be a visual thing due to the different shape of the later 5th gen's front bumper. The place they're most likely to rub on is the frame and body mount, and those are the same for all 5th gen's.

    Latest on 2024 4R?

Turbos also make more power out of a smaller displacement, which is a good thing. Turbos are not new, they're nothing to be afraid of. I have a 16 year old Volvo with 232k and counting on the original turbo, no issues ever. It's tuned for low end torque, it's a great driving experience. I...

In need of a new vehicle - what would you do?

Buy a beater for the new driver, new drivers are notoriously hard on vehicles. Plus, why saddle a new driver with a vehicle that gets such poor mileage? Get them a Honda Fit or similar. 100k on a 5th gen is damn near new, no reason to replace it any time in the next decade.
