I had the same issue, mine ended up being a bad ignition coil. Trace your wires back from the spark plug, should be two wires coming from each one. Could be a possibility for you, I thought my clutch was slipping when it did it.

V6 is probably different, I have an actual tensioner on my 2.7. Three separate belts and three separate tensioners. Glad he got if fixed though.

Try either the power steering pulley tensioner or the ac one. They unbolt out of there to be replaced. You keep the tensioner bracket, new pulley should be about 30. It may be the bearings going out in those.

Just rolled over 200k last week on my 97 base 4cyl. Still running strong!

We use ATF on our fire engines at work. Makes the dash, pump panel, pretty much anywhere you would use armor-all look great. The wd-40 only gets used on tools ie metal parts.

I was able to get to mine with a socket set and some persistence. Didn't have to remove the tire. It was a bit of a pain though.

Put some nice 99-02 headlights on my 97. Looks cleaner in front and now I am just waiting for dark to see how much better they perform.

Like he said try the belts, if not those could be your fan clutch going.

Did some PM today. New air filter, drained and filled the differential and manual trans. Shifting a little smoother now. 193k and running strong on my 97 base 4 cyl. :D

I am up to 193k on my original clutch. I bet you still have some miles in it but it could be your throwout bearing going? I realize mine is getting old so I have started shopping around too.
