I just got back from the dealer too. The tech pulled back the left boot on the inner tie rod end while somebody turned the wheel back and forth. The inner tied rod end would pop up when turning the wheel left. So now I know where the sound is coming from inside the rack. Only problem is...

I was told there weren't steering stops on the '97 models. How would I know if mine has them?

Its a '97. I was looking at it last night and the boots looked good. Didn't see any grease. The dealer said its the steering rack. The tech that looked at it said the left shaft coming out of the rack in moving up and down when the wheels turn. I looked for this last night and couldn't see...

No. Just when I'm slowly making a sharp turn into a parking space. Also, it only happens when turning left. The sound is a cross between a "clang" and a "pop". I feel like it might be a bushing or ball joint in the front suspension. Would that make sense?

When I make a slow sharp turn (when pulling into a parking space) I occasionally hear a clanging sound from the front end. I've got 144K miles. Its a 4x4 SR5. Any ideas what this may be? Thanks
