HG failure goes like this. Check engine will light up. No other symptoms. Check engine might go off. You'll think, damn Yotas are awesome.....they fix themselves. lol. Then you'll start her up one morning and she will shake like hell for about 25-45 seconds and the CE lights up. Next step...

Search "P0306 code". 2004 V6 seems to have some problems that Toyota is ignoring. The same #6 cylinder is back causing problems just like with the 2nd generation 4Runners. Could run $4K. Unfortunately, a $9K car is a crapshoot.

You should be able to pull in an 08 for 25-26K.

Why would you go back to the Dealer after it's out of warranty? That's step 1 in car repair. They don't call them stealerships b/c they're inexpensive.

Yeah, the MPG is not that different. Officially listed as 2 mpg different on the HWY between 4WD 4.0L and 4WD 4.7L. The only reason to get a 4.0L is b/c you can buy a TRD supercharger for it. lol No SC for the 4.7L.

Have a 14 inch series 50 Flowmaster. Get the 18 inch. lol I'm going back to have them cut the resonator off and put a stainless pipe and curl it to the side like the 3rd generations.
