Thought I updated this. Ended up needing Time Certs. The spark plug threads corroded into the plug socket, 4 of them. What should have been an easy spark plug job ended up being a few hours of work. After the Time Certs were installed it fired up and runs beautifully.
I’ve also had to replace...
Howdy yall.
Just a few months ago I replaced the contacts on my starter, after doing it only 6 months prior. Then today I got the dreaded “firm” click with no crank.
I’m at my wits end with this. What could be causing it to chew through contacts like this? Every time I’ve replaced them...
Well. The saga continues.
The number 3 cylinder decided to eject its spark plug too, taking the entire coil off with it. Odd that it happened on the same coil pack as the first one, which was cylinder 4. Except this time it took the spark plug threads with it.
Time-Sert is on order!
Made a thread about this a few weeks ago, and think I may have found the culprit.
One morning I had this odd clicking/clapping sound coming from the drivers side of the engine. Video of it here.Scoped it as best I knew how, and all I could gather was that it was indeed coming from the drivers...
Good morning yall. My 98 started this weird tick or knocking sound the other day. Runs just fine, no codes being thrown. Video link. Can’t figure out how to upload directly, sorry for the link to YouTube.
I'd take my 4runner back there any day, easily the best experience I've had dealing with a shop when I get in over my head. I wish I still lived down there permanently to take advantage of the shop, but unfortunately I'm stationed across the country. The 4runner is still in my wife's hands down...
Solved!
Wanted to post an update in case anyone in the future has this issue and their Google search leads here.
Threw in the towel after testing continuity of the ECT sensor and the wiring looms. Both were replaced, and it still threw the P0115 code immediately after clearing. Dropped it off...
Howdy yall, my 1998 has had a problem for the past 6 months or so (I'm stationed away from home and can only work on it every few months, not being driven while I'm away), that started as a CEL. No problem, pulled out the scanner and saw a P0115 code for the ECT sensor. Wasn't the one on the...
After driving for a few months with a loud exhaust, finally took advantage of a day off to get it looked at. Replaces the muffler and the tail pipe, relatively cheap too. I'm now much happier to give it some beans when accelerating instead of babying it and making a ton of noise.
I try not to brag about this, but I'm a humble idiot. The toyota shop that shipped them wrapped the LBJs in paper then boxed them up. I didn't even open the box until I the old ones were off.
Exactly this. The old ones were in there good. After a combination of pickle forks, mallets, a torch...
Redid the LBJs after being shipped the wrong ones and not noticing until I had already destroyed the original ones. Had to go with Moogs just to get it off of the Jack's, and drove with those for 4k miles. Peace of mind achieved!
