DIY "Gobi Style" Roof Rack Build

I did not do a detailed write up, I can tell you that it was all a matter of playing with it. I didn't have a tool for bending the plate that wraps around the top of the door, so I welded to strips of flat plate together at an angle, and that was a messy PITA. It was all trial and error getting...

DIY "Gobi Style" Roof Rack Build

Sorry just getting to this. I used a pipe notching tool to round the end of each piece to be jointed. It certainly made the welding easier. Below is a picture of a couple of the joints. Please don't judge, as this was my first time wire welding in several years, and my welds are ugly, but they...

Lets play a game...Who has the best shadow?

When I'm driving the right direction at the right time of day, I get a pretty good kick out of my shadow profile. Maybe it's just a little self pride in my handiwork, but surely I'm not the only one who has taken a pic like this. Lets see 'em. Cheers Jake

Would rock sliders help in an accident?

All this brings a question to my mind: Does anyone know definitively how the airbag sensors (side and front) work in the 5th gen? Are they accelerometers? Impact sensors? I agree with the fact that bumpers and sliders have varying affect on accident outcome. However, if the airbag sensors are in...

    DIY Full Length Rack

Excellent job brother. I did the same thing a few weeks ago, didn't have the time or $$$ for Gobi. Much more satisfaction in DIY.

What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Appreciate the offer, but I'm planning on just pulling mine and painting them in the near future :)

What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Made use of the sunny day and gave the 'Runner the works: Wash and wax, tire shine, rain-x all glass, vacuum inside, detailed, and leather conditioned. I love the feel of a "new" car, just hit 1 year and 14,000 miles. Many miles and years to come! Cheers

Installing Fridge Power Kills Remote Door locks

If someone wants to donate their fridge to me I would be happy to find a solution.:tongue1: I would be curious to know if lining the interior of the left interior panel would block enough of the interference?

Installing Fridge Power Kills Remote Door locks

Based on this, that sounds like the fridge itself must be creating interference with the remote sensor. When I took the side panels off the cargo area of my 2016 SR5, I noticed that one of the sensors is mounted above the left wheel well (I'm not sure if its the only one) See picture below Good...

FS 5th Gen. Full Length Roof Racks by drabbits

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how he is getting away with selling racks so similar to Gobi's without getting into legal trouble with them? I want to know his secret, as Gobi seems to be vicious about this sort of thing. Thanks

DIY "Gobi Style" Roof Rack Build

An update, I apologize, I had to pull my design files. After some research, I have realized just how thorough Gobi has been in their intellectual property procurement process (they're maniacal, clearly) and based on how far reaching their patents are, I don't understand how ANY company can...
