Write-up: How to Disable (Bypass) the TPMS

Worked for me Just did this to my 2006 SR5 v8 4wd. Easiest mod ever! Jumpered the Pink-Black to the White black as in the photograph on the original post. I skipped the slice thingy and just used short bit of telco wire pressed in the back of the white connector for the two target pins. No more...

    Totaled?

Reminds me of a microburst that hit our house a couple of years ago. Knocked over a 100+ year old tree between me and my neighbor, with the bulk falling where my 4runner is normally parked (see Picasa Web Albums - Jay Harrell - 2008_08_02 St...) - but luckily it wasn't there that day. We had...

Rotating the spare / TPMS questions? (SR5)

That's exactly what I do on mine. I still get the light about every two years, and I love having the spare monitored this way - if it's down to 28, I actually want to know about it without crawling under with a pressure gauge. No TPMS on the spare is just another small "miss" for Toyota on the...

    More highway stability please

Could be tire balance I know it sounds crazy, but on my 3rd gen and my 4th gen, this feeling was consistently caused by very slightly out of balance tires on the front end. Not enough out of balance that you could feel any vibration - just a lightness and wandering on the highway. It's...

5th vs 4th side by side pics!

Coulda had a 09 +1! I had a 3rd gen, and now a 4th gen. I never liked the 4th gen styling as much as my old 3rd, but combined with the "decontenting", it's enough to send me looking elsewhere. I don't know what I'll end up with next time around, and for now I will be keeping my 4th and just...

All 2010 4runners delayed to dealers until 2010

SET sucks... That screen is the system wide SET inventory screen, and is only saying that SET (Southeast Toyota Distributors aka JM Family) has the vehicles somewhere in their allocation. They may be sitting at the "port" in Commerce GA, but that doesn't mean they are actually available or...

2010 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition: Review and Pics (TruckTrend)

I'm another big user of 4lo/unlocked. In my case it's for towing out large sailboats up slippery ramps that change to dry pavement at the top when they are still plenty steep enough to want 4lo, but have way too much traction for a locked center when you need to turn. I don't think this...

    Transfer Case Question

I'm pretty sure the full-time system in the 3rd gens was an open-diff in the center, not torsen. I've owned both and the Torsen is noticeably nicer, but the open-center does the trick too.

Re: No V8 and no center diff in SR5 and TE models...

Of course, your 2000 limited HAS a center diff. Since 2001 (or was it 02), all 4wd 4runners have had a center diff. Until now...

2010 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition: Review and Pics (TruckTrend)

Me too. I owned a 3rd gen before my current 4th. My favorite exterior was the 3rds with no body cladding, but I had to accept the cladding to get the 4wd system I wanted. The 3rd gen interior was better too. But the 4th gen drivetrain (mine is 4wd v8) is fantastic. I find the 5th gen...

Re: No V8 and no center diff in SR5 and TE models...

All the more reason to keep up the complaining! We know they CAN do it "if there is demand", so we need to demonstrate that demand in every way possible. Public Internet forums do matter, as does talking with dealer managers.

No more V8s, no more buying 4runner

I agree. I had a 2000 3th gen and it was 2006 before I was willing to get a 4th gen to replace it. And still, I liked the 2000 better than the 2006, except for the drive train. The seats were more comfortable, the interior layout made better use of space, and the materials and fit and finish...

    Transfer Case Question

lever is probably fake anyway Don't be fooled - On the 3rd gen, the 4WD lever than you saw in the cab was just a fancy switch that operated servos on the transfer case and front axle. Of course, I haven't crawled under a 5th gen to see for sure, but I bet I would see the same. The lever may...

    Transfer Case Question

At this point, if I consider a new 4Runner at all, it will be a 2wd. I live in the "rain belt" not the snow belt, and full time 4wd is great in the rain. But my main use of 4wd is pulling large boats up wet ramps and around the storage lot. I use 4-lo/unlocked on my 4th gen and it's the...

    Towing with the 5th Generation

I don't yet know specifics for the 2010, but if you run the numbers for tongue weight, GCVWR, and axle ratings on most "5000 lbs" tow rated vehicles, you'll find they can't really tow that much in the real world where you need to also carry some people and gear in the cab. I tow a 4000 lbs...
