    Engine Tapping/Ticking Noise

The 4.0 is just a noisy engine. Check out "The Car Care Nut" on You*ube, he's a Toyota mechanic with his own shop. Overseas the 4.0 is approved for up to 20w50, I'm currently using 5w30 and it has quieted down a lot. (this is in the 2013 FJ, same engine, but I also used 30 in the 2015 'Runner...

Should I switch to Mobil 1 high mileage?

Yeah Amsoil is very good stuff...just got to ignore the mlm and just who (and how many "who's") are getting paid. Quick aside: MLM was a good way to market stuff, pre-internet. Hardly needed today; they could likely drop their prices several bucks a quart and maintain or increase profits...

Should I switch to Mobil 1 high mileage?

No leaks = no need for high mileage. After 75k I have always used the same thing as before 75k - and never had an oil related issue. A HM oil contains more seal maintaining ingredients, and will cause some leaks to reseal if the gasket is dried out. You shouldn't have that issue using M1...

Can you turn off the nannies?

Alright so we are getting into a place where a T4R will again be in the driveway. Thanks in advance to those that know. Torn between 2019 an earlier (with a key!) and the 2020 & up with all the (to me) annoying nannies. I am old school and actually pay attention when I drive, and have...

    first oil change - new 4runner - before 10k?

I'm a big fan of early changes on a new engine, shooting for 1000 for the first one. It's a good "just in case" for assembly materials. Highest wear on most engines comes during break in, so usually hit 2500, 5000 then 10000, if for nothing else than to check the filter. For...

    Tired of Searching Tires

Agree with either Coopers or Michelins. Only have experience with the LTX, they were really good in all conditions except deep mud. Plus they lasted fir a TON of miles--got over 100k on a Wrangler and over 80k on a Grand Cherokee.

    New Broncos

Leaking roofs may be part of the issue as well. There are thousands of them parked in Belleville MI (outside Detroit). I'm here for a training class and spoke to a knowledgeable local Ford guy.

    Summer Tires

LOL for Highlanders :spit: OP has likely already bought his tires at this point....but I agree, summer tires are more for a street performance machine. 4Runners do fine on a good all season. To update my choices, the Yokohama Geolandar G015 looks like the winner; less expensive than the...

Been to them several times over the years, always a good experience.

    Rear Differential Pinion Bearing failing.......

Sounds like the shop that performed the inspection is drumming up some (excessive) business at your expense. Most definitely have the work done elsewhere. Pinion bearing is pressed in I believe, so disassembly is required and costs higher.

    tire pressure when towing

My standard load tires felt squirmy while towing, until I put them at their 44psi max. That made them feel more normal. Brought the fronts up to 44 also, since under braking they are subjected to a higher load. Yours are max at 51? You may have to play around to find the best psi for your...
