Thanks for all the info. I was leaning towards fixing the 22re, but wanted a little advice from guys who have worked on these things. I will save up a few dollars a get started.

New on here with a few questions. Recently bought a 87 4runner as a project. It looks like the head on the 22RE in it is going to need some work. However, My brother and law has a low milage 22R that he will practically give me. Question is should I stick with fixing the RE or go for the swap...
