how do i get more hp?

I didn't notice much when I added the cold air intake from K & N. however.... removing my catalytic converter, and adding a test pipe, along with the LC engineering cat back did help a bit.

    1986 4runner MPG?

Even so, the V6 should still get better mileage than you're getting. I don't even get that bad of mileage around town.

    Bad Water Pump?

are you having trouble keeping the radiator full? if so: check the oil for a milk shake color. is there white smoke with a sweet smell coming from the exhaust? if you have these problems it's most likely the head gasket. it's just a common problem with the V6, so I thought I'd share. (welcome...

Anything I should know/ask before purchasing?

The v6 is prone to head gasket failure and weak hp for th size of engine. As long as you're prepare to deal with these issues... Go for it! I still love mine.

    1993 3.0 3VZE 4runner Head Gasket HELP!

I had a shop near by my house do the head gasket and they used spring bolts. You should check to see if your shop used these, because they don't require any retorquing.:nerd:

auto to manual or 4cy to v6?

Don't do it. You just saved yourself a lot of greif by losing that V6. Do some more research and you'll find that most people prefer the 4cyl to the V6. You can modify the 4 cyl to get just as much HP as he V6 with mostly "bolt on" aftermarket stuff. The problem with the V6 is gas mileage, low...

    Motor swap question- need help

Make sure you call a dealer and see if this head gasket failure is covered under the recall they issued on a number of the 3VZEs. It didn't work for me, but I know of others that saved a lot of money by having the dealer fix it for free. Good luck!

    dual exhaust-3.0 ??

IMO if you're going to do dual exhast you might as well go all the way. Maybe the first step would be a cat back? They sound good and i've heard they increase the performance a lot, and sound good depending on the muffler. Might be more cost effective, but if you do go the dual exhaust route...

    dual exhaust-3.0 ??

LC engineering makes some, but they're not cheap... Actually the 3.0 L seems to have really expensive aftermarket headers in general. Good luck!

    Well Poop!!

These 3.0 L V6's are notorious for blowing the head gasket (apparently). Did you see if it was covered under the Toyota recall before they started fixing it?

Thanks guys, I'm going to try one more time balancing since that's what everyone is recomending.

    shaky at 60-65mph

the wheels and tires are brand new (BFGoodrich A/Ts - 31's) and I've had them balanced at two different places - neither of which worked. I'm going to call the place i got the wheels from to see what I can do about replacing the wheels with the new tires and seeing what happens. The other thing...

    shaky at 60-65mph

I have been having a vibration issue at about 60 mph. it lessens above about 65. I've had a couple places look at the suspension and joints, drivetrain, etc, and they can't find anything wrong with it. Sort of a newbie but I'd like to learn more. any ideas? 95 SR5 3.0 4WD

90 v6 auto sputtering on highway

I think I might have the same issue. By "sputtering", do you mean it shakes a little at that speed?
