Advice on replacing the clutch in 99' manual 4WD

I drive a 99' manual transmission 4WD with 231K. 3 months ago I had trouble shifting into 4th while cruising around 50mph and ended up accidentally grinding it in 2nd for a brief moment and once I had it secured in 4th the RPM's spiked up for a few seconds with no boost in acceleration and I...

Axle shaft boot leak, what all should I replace?

While draining my radiator I noticed a grease and crud build-up on my front driver's shaft. I'll accept the boot needs replacing, but are there any signs to determine whether the entire axle shaft needs replacing? AND if I replace one axle shaft and boot, should I replace both for reasons...

    Maddening Misfire Mystery

So to bring the mystery to a close... I pulled the fuel rails and tested the resistance on each injector. All read between 13-16 ohms. I flushed each injector and all the ones I pulled from the scrap yard using this method, which I found to be the simplest and most effective on YouTube. Each...

Do I really need to get new o-rings when replacing fuel injectors?

So whatever that CRB 212077 kit goes to, it is not the factory injectors. I looked at those in NAPA and there was one of the smaller o rings that goes on one end, but the only other ring in the kit was this larger gasket that didn't match anything on the injectors my 4Runner and the one I pulled...

Do I really need to get new o-rings when replacing fuel injectors?

Okay so the consensus looks like replace the o rings. Now which o rings? On both ends of the injector? The large gasket in the center as well?

Do I really need to get new o-rings when replacing fuel injectors?

I am replacing a fuel injector that seems to be cutting out when the engine heats up and it causes a misfire. I went ahead and pulled all six from a 3rd gen 4Runner at the pick and pull and I'm going to clean 11 (not the one from cylinder 4 that I know is causing the problem), check the voltage...

    Maddening Misfire Mystery

So with clogged injector or compression issue is it possible that at times the engine will run fine and other times it misfires? Because if that's not possible, meaning the misfire does not come and go when it is the injector or cylinder that is at fault, then despite replacing the coil pack...

    Maddening Misfire Mystery

I've got a 99' V6 4WD 5spd 4Runner and it has an intermittent misfire in cylinder 4. I replaced all the spark plugs and that didn't fix it I swapped the plug wires where they plug into the coil packs and the misfire followed the swap (the code read for a cylinder 6 misfire) So then I replaced...

Cylinder 4 misfire still acting up after spark plug replacement

Thanks I've been doing some reading through old forum posts about misfires. The CEL light came on but the engine sounded and felt fine and the CEL light has gone off again. Looks like I'll test fuel injector by listening with a stethoscope and if there's any doubt to what I'm hearing, remove the...

Cylinder 4 misfire still acting up after spark plug replacement

The noise was only when the coils for cylinder 2 and 4 were swapped. Once I returned them to their respective plug holes it hasn't happened since, nor did it before I swapped them to test if it was cylinder 4's coil. I just replaced all the spark plugs. Did you mean replace all wires and...

Cylinder 4 misfire still acting up after spark plug replacement

My 4Runner is a 99' 4WD V6 standard trans 5spd 213k on it Recently I noticed occasions when starting the truck up its idle was kinda burpy and had a noticeable shake to it and this would feel worse when letting out the clutch into low gears. This would come a go for about a week then started...

Rear differential leaking a quart of oil a month from center diff and both axles

Sorry SST sounds like it could be a common acronym. What does that stand for?

Rear differential leaking a quart of oil a month from center diff and both axles

Thanks for bringing this up. Someone suggested a rusted out housing, which is why I mentioned this 4Runner has been in the desert all its existence. Welder I have, new housing might be sitting in a junkyard in town.

Rear differential leaking a quart of oil a month from center diff and both axles

I've got a 99 4Runner, V6, 5 speed, 4wd, 216k miles, NO RUST (almost its entire existence was in Texas) The rear differential is leaking about a 1/4 qt oil a week from the pumpkin in the center AND both axle seals, there is splatter all on the inside of both the rear wheels. I got a quote from...

Part Numbers for Double Cardan Joint

I know it. It was the only yard in the whole city that had 3rd gen 4Runners in the lot. The 96 was stripped bare and the 99 had just the joint. Someone cut the driveshaft above it and left an immaculate DC joint for my taking. I felt very fortunate!
