I've had this problem too. I didn't want to have a towel or something like this on the dash, I think it looks horrible, so I took the dash apart and fixed the plastic clips(rolling some duct tape around the clip will work). The trigger its on the latch itself. Mine has broken the wire inside the latch. To pull it off it isn't that difficult, you just have to pull the hatch panel and pull off the latch. The real difficult is to disassembly the latch to fix the broken wire. I had to use a angle grinder to open it LOL...

You're talking about the hatch light, right? Mine was doing that too...When you open the hatch, it indicates on the dash(same light that indicate open doors)? If not, then could be just a broken wire on the wire harness(since you said that the license plate lights are off too), or the trunk...

The fuse that controls front and rear wipers, and front and rear washers is the same. If the wipers and rear washer are working fine, its not the fuse. Check the conector of the front washer pump with a multimeter and see if its getting power. If not, its either the switch in the steering column...

Problem solved! There was a harness at the rear hatch that with vibration and time, began to touch the metal of the hatch and get a little short with the car itself. What we have done, was just separate the harness and isolate it, and now everything is working fine.

Hi, I have a 97' 4Runner. Some weeks ago we have to remove the wiper motor to clean and grease it(was making a little noise). We removed the conector from the motor, cleaned, greased and reassembled it. The wipers were working fine, without any noise. After a few days, I went to turn the car...

How did you got the two parts of the dash apart? How did you get it together? I want to know because the vinyl part of my dash is getting separated from the main dash, and I want to get it together again. Thanks!
