    Double-Decker Cargo shelf material

T4R, I was wondering if anyone knew (for certain) what material the double-decker cargo shelf is made of? I assume it's particle board or cardboard of sorts, but haven't drilled into it yet and there doesn't seem to be any non-carpeted area showing. I'm planning on mounting a couple of...

Factory roof weight rating on 4th gens?

It depends what kind of info you're after. Will the roof collapse and compromise the structural integrity of the car? No. Will the sheetmetal deform if you're not standing on a rack/structural component? Yes. While the roof is a structural component, asking if you can just stand on the roof...

Synthetic Vrs. Conventional in older 4runner

There is no way Captsolo isn't some mod's alt ****ing with everyone. Either that, or the bar for getting banned/miserable user/etc... around here is WAY too high.

Shop for small welding repairs in SoMD?

Anyone know of a good place in Calvert/St Mary's County that does good sheetmetal welding? I have a small patch panel I need welded on a part for another project (pictured), but two of the shops I've called wanted ~$200 for a 5" patch w/o any finish work. Thanks in advance.

New Tires for a 14,000 mile roadtrip

What he said. Best tires I've ever owned. Even put them on my wife's nondescript CUV because of how quiet they are and how good they've been in ice/snow. Michelin all the way.

A/C Troubleshooting... before I go buy the tools

Finally got around to picking up a set of gauges and a vacuum pump. Static pressure on the system with the engine off was ~30psi both sides. When the clutch engaged on the compressor the low side pulled a vacuum and the high side only went to about 60psi. Since it had a static pressure that...

A/C Troubleshooting... before I go buy the tools

T4R, I'm trying to see if I missed any initial troubleshooting steps before I go buy gauges and a vacuum pump to do it all the way. Symptoms: It's a 2005 V6 SR5/4WD. Following a multi-day road trip towing a load, the 4R sat for a couple days. On the next drive, the AC was blowing ambient air...

    Highest Mileage 4th Gen?

05 v6 SR5 4WD. 165K. Nothing major, but the carrier/pinion bearings are whining, so that'll get fixed in the not too distant future. Also, head gasket prayers

Quick change oil shop broke my airbox lid.

But is completely their problem and you should feel no obligation to alleviate their financial burden. If they don't want to pay out, hire competent people or ask the owner.

ATF Exchange (using the cooling line)

Non-answer answer ahead No, but I did my last exchange using a mix of gravity fill and then a hand pump once I remembered I had one. Since then I decided that the next time I have to do this, I'm going the pressure bleeder route. I already bought a $6 bug sprayer and a couple fittings to make a...

    Do I keep it?

Keep in mind, even if you had to replace ALL of that, it'd be significantly cheaper than a new one. If you love it, no reason to settle for something lesser that also costs more.

Easy Peasy transmission fluid exchange V6

I tackled this one today and, while it didn't make a huge difference in the shifting, the fluid that came out at 161k was nasty. Couple of things I did and would do differently if I tackle this again. I'm not a patient man, so constantly refilling the funnel and waiting annoyed the hell out of...

What did everyone pay for their 4th gen?

Just picked up a 2005 SR5 4x4 with a V6 and 158k miles for $7800. Now to not get carried away doing stuff to it... bought it for a DD to save the sportscar the miles.
