Does anyone have the wiring diagrams for various years to know what to hook to what between years in order to keep the 4x4 multimode ecu happy? Or a write up saying how to hack it. Like yellow black wire is looking for 12v when transfer case is locked.
Also really curious about what goes into making the multi mode TC stand along as I would like to put one in my 98 SR5 manual. Anyone ever document this?
I watched Timmy's video on the solo motorsports LCA install on a 3rd gen 4runner. I noticed they used the greaseable bolts as well as greasing the inside of the urethane on the outside of the sleeve my question is where does the pivot motion actually happen? Between the bolt and the sleeve or...
I have a 98 5 speed SR5 with J shifter and I used to have a 2000 Auto Limited with Multimode. I have always wanted my 5 speed to have the multi mode transfer case for the AWD non-locked function. It was so much better in the winter on patchy snow and ice roads. This thread has inspired me to...
Control arm bushings. Your alignment is changing dynamically as weight is being transfered because the control arm pivots are moving out of their intended axis. This is pretty unnerving and can feel darty as your front wheels poind different directions and it will want to go back and forth...
Jakeepoo, I don't intend to actually use "grease". I just want to be able to use a grease gun to connect to a zerk and pump in silicone.
Chuckles, do you have any photos or tips on doing this job. Is the grease able to get into the pivoting area?
Justin
I just checked my maintenance log and I installed the poly bushings less than 2 years and 12k miles ago. Upper and lower. I greased both at that time. The uppers I've had to take off once and relube since then. The lowered I did not want to because it's a bit more involved and I just did it less...
My 98 4runner has urethane control arm bushings in both the upper and lower front control arms. Over time the grease works its way out no matter how much I cram in there. I can feel it as stiction and eventually it'll squeek over speedbumps. I disassemble and regrease and it rides like a...
I guess I was naive to think that with so many 4runners build someone would have done this swap. I don't mind trouble shooting and I'm not bad with electrical but I don't know that I want to pioneer this procedure. I was already planning on tricking the electronics for the front ADD actuator...
The reason for this is two fold. Vacuum operated stuff seems more problematic in my experience and I hate diagnosing vacuum issues. It's so much easier to test things with a multimeter to track down issues. The guys at Toyota must have decided this too because they went to electric ADD actuator...
This doesn't make sense to me. I could see it being an eci issue if I were changing transmissions, as autos and manual so have different needs but what would the computer care whether the TC was locked or unlocked What does the computer do on a manual trans truck that would interfere? Did Toyota...
My 99 auto had multimode and I really liked the pushbutton AWD/unlocked TC for winter driving over the j-shift locked case in my current 98. this seems like it shouldnt be that hard of a switch if I have a 99 donor to grab drive shafts off of. even if I have to get new driveshafts it would still...
I'm currently waiting on a new front diff with Harrpo elocker from eascoast gear supply. While I have it all out I think it might be a good time to switch in the electric ADD actuator found in the 01-02 4runners instead of the vacuum operated one from earlier models. I'd like to manually operate...
