My Phoenix is flying again... Its been sometime, Engine work done, Transmission Rebuilt and today went to Goodyear for a set of 265/70/17 Duratracs on FJ Wheels. I was smiling ear to ear when I saw them on :bounce: Just off the Lift: Outside with the Blue Washed Off the White Letters:

Will it be a trail rig or daily driver? Trail, yes because you will scratch the paint and beat on it. Daily driver is a no, tomuch can go wrong on the way to work...

:biggrin2: I've been lusting for a rear E-locker, air locker but the Aussie and its $314.00 delivered is a win anyway I look at it. I'd like to get back into off-roading or most likely beach driving around my parts and this maybe right up my alley.

You know the history of the truck as its your friends mother's. Living on Long Island myself 3000-3500K is still a great deal and you have an E-locker with a Federal transmission (better clutch materials) & Federal emissions (one cat) you are starting out in great shape even with 170,000 miles...

Its my understanding that 1996-8/1999 are the same A340F, but Toyota switched 1999-2000 to Cal standard and added electronic kick down from cable / vac hose in years after. If the A340F is an ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) or has add-ons, I don't know how compatible these...

My 2000 4runner A/T is also a 4X4 A340F Cal. I don't have access to both and can only guess that the bell housing is different. Are you a Toyota Tech or have first hand knowlege of the A340F trasmissions used in both the 2nd gen Tacoma & 3rd gen 4runner?

It was the first repair I had to do on my 4runner, rear brake seal blew out. Previous owner thought power brake booster was causing soft brakes, $17 dollar fix saved me big on price of the truck:-)

I've been researching a replacement Automatic Transmission for my 2000 3.4l 4runner with California emissions. I will be putting it in myself to save on the cost. What I have found is a New or Rebuilt Automatic Transmission from Toyota will cost from $1800-$3700 depending on Dealership and...

For the cost around $20 each side from any auto store I would just pick up a set. As long as the seals are not leaking you should be ok. Again, some parts are worth changing.
