A/T Transmission ID Help Tocoma & 4runner

I've been researching a replacement Automatic Transmission for my 2000 3.4l 4runner with California emissions. I will be putting it in myself to save on the cost. What I have found is a New or Rebuilt Automatic Transmission from Toyota will cost from $1800-$3700 depending on Dealership and core deposit. I do not want to spend this much. Local shops are $1500 and up for rebuilt if I bring it into them, more if they are doing the removal.

Locally I'm not finding any used A/T of value, so I'm thinking rebuilt as I'm going to drive the 4runner into the ground and expect another 7 plus years out of its 131,000 mile motor with new head gasket, timing belt and heads.

I found a Dealer Certified Rebuilt Automatic Transmission company but they won't sell 3gen transmission to anyone but dealerships per contract. They do have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Automatic Transmission but will only verify it will work/fit on a 2000 2.7l Tacoma

Now for my question:
My 2000 4runner A/T is per my Vin # Toyota part 35010-3G030-84 or # 35010-3G040-84.

Will a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Automatic Transmission, A/T Model A340F, 4WD 2.7l Manufacturer Part Number: 35010-3D820-84 bolt right up if I swap my bell housing for the 2.7l bell housing or is something different (Bell housing bolts, shaft, kick down etc.)?

I'm not concerned with Cal or Fed requirements as I discovered the difference is the clutch material used for EPA standards starting in 2000.

It was the first repair I had to do on my 4runner, rear brake seal blew out. Previous owner thought power brake booster was causing soft brakes, $17 dollar fix saved me big on price of the truck

You said the trans type in the taco.. What's the trans in the 4runner? Once you figure that out then you can start moving forward.

My 2000 4runner A/T is also a 4X4 A340F Cal.
I don't have access to both and can only guess that the bell housing is different. Are you a Toyota Tech or have first hand knowlege of the A340F trasmissions used in both the 2nd gen Tacoma & 3rd gen 4runner?

I was under the impression any A340F behind a 3.4l will work.

You can also get the trans from a jeep wrangler or cherokee with the 4.0 and the Aisin trans. I think its called AX4. Just need to take the jeep bellhousing off and put on yours.

I even think the electrical connections are the same.

Its my understanding that 1996-8/1999 are the same A340F, but Toyota switched 1999-2000 to Cal standard and added electronic kick down from cable / vac hose in years after.

If the A340F is an ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) or has add-ons, I don't know how compatible these components are between model lines.

My theory is that the 2000 Tacoma A340F should work with swapping out the bell housings but I'm not sure about ECT, kickdown and if some electrical connections are pinned differently.
