Towing experiences with your 5th Generation

Yes, the extra weight is more balanced by the support of second axle - for my experience. I should have added as well, that I went to a different weight distribution hitch when I got my larger Jayco as well. That may also have helped with my stability as well. Honestly, if the GeoPro has...

Towing experiences with your 5th Generation

Jimmied, I went from a single axle jayco to a double axle. I much prefer the double axle. It's more stable, and there's an extra axle for braking effort. Also - some camper manufacturers only use a 3500lb axle on single axle trailers. My 17 foot Jayco had a 3500lb single axle but they rated...

Towing experiences with your 5th Generation

Glad to see you got it worked out! Moving gear around inside the camper really helps a lot too. We keep all of our light stuff (chairs, umbrella, etc) in the front storage of the trailer and the heavy stuff (full coolers etc) goes inside in the middle to keep weight off the front. A scale is...

Towing experiences with your 5th Generation

I've been monitoring my temps with the Torque Pro app, and I haven't seen temps too alarmingly hot yet - though we are just starting into summer here in central FL. I think it briefly maxed out a 215-220*F when I was accelerating on to the highway on my last outing, but then when it locked up it...

Towing experiences with your 5th Generation

Hey shinscreen: I did the air bag install myself - Took about an hour or so, but I've got air tools and it made it a heck of a lot quicker to drop the rear axle enough to get the coil springs out and put the bags in them. I'm still on the hunt for ideal mirror extensions - so far I've tried...

Towing experiences with your 5th Generation

2020 4Runner + 2021 Jay Flight Just took the first trip with our Jayco Jay Flight SLX 212QB travel trailer this weekend. Using a Fastway E2 weight distribution hitch with sway control and Firestone Coil-Rite bags in the rear springs on the 'Runner. The Jayco weighs in at about 4,350 lbs on...

    5th Gen 4Runner - bumper damages - similar experiences?

Yeah - I was a little skeptical about the whole need for a pre/post scan for just this bump. It didn't even trigger the crash sensor on my dash cam - and had I not been sitting in the driver's seat with the engine running that would not have been on. But it's standard procedure for any Toyota...

    5th Gen 4Runner - bumper damages - similar experiences?

Yep - here in FL as well we have the right to take the vehicle to whatever shop we feel is appropriate. In my case - it's going to the dealer since its 6 months old - and of course - their insurance only wanted to pay for the damages that they believed that their insured caused. Long story...

    5th Gen 4Runner - bumper damages - similar experiences?

Yeah, I'm not 100% on that either. I don't know for sure at what point any sensor that is on the vehicle would have been set off for crash detection. As far as I know too, my 'Runner only has the Pre-collision/Safety Sense on the front. I don't even have park sensors on the back.

    5th Gen 4Runner - bumper damages - similar experiences?

Their insurance - who claim to be like a good neighbor - do not want to pay the full charges that the shop is charging. Yes - it's at a Toyota dealer body shop, yes - the labor rates are shocking, but my 4Runner is 6 months old and as I see it, needs to be repaired as a new vehicle. Anyway -...

    5th Gen 4Runner - bumper damages - similar experiences?

Yeah - the Toyota body shop wants to replace it - and insurance does not think it is necessary to replace it. Plus they are telling me they have to do 5+ hours of diagnostic scans to reset crash computers and seat sensors, etc. Insurance does not want to cover that either.

    5th Gen 4Runner - bumper damages - similar experiences?

Of course I know parking lot accidents are a common occurrence. I should have been a bit more specific. Specifically - has the bumper split on the narrow bit that is highlighted in the second to the last photograph.

    5th Gen 4Runner - bumper damages - similar experiences?

Hey all! Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has had similar results when their bumper was struck from the side. Not to go to far into detail here but I was sitting in my brand new 'Runner and I was hit by a guy trying to park next to me. It caused good scuff/scratch/dent on the left...

    5th Gen Weathertech TechShade Review

How have the WeatherTech shades held up? I'm debating on getting the full kit for my 5th gen since it's now going to be a camping rig. Also - the interior roof cargo net is cool!

    Third time's a charm!!

Keep an eye out on eBay and probably here too. You may be able to find the black bumper cover. Or if you're wanting one I'm pretty sure it can be found through an online Toyota parts supplier. I believe this is the correct part # (53901-35250). They look to be pretty easy to change out. Or if...
