I did mine with an old fashioned toggle switch so I can turn them off when I don’t need em. Not like you could see mine in the daylight anyway. I used Pilot dome leds and wired them in essentially the same fashion as you, I used two pointing down diagonally across the engine bay. Great write up.

can you explain how you got the cover off without removing entire unit?

Every time I've seen a write up or vidjayoh on it they cut a slot for the wires out of the perimeter of the hole.
