I did mine with an old fashioned toggle switch so I can turn them off when I don’t need em. Not like you could see mine in the daylight anyway.
I used Pilot dome leds and wired them in essentially the same fashion as you, I used two pointing down diagonally across the engine bay.

ya I thought about using two strips down the sides to brighten up the deeper sections of the engine bay but there isnt much I ever do down there that would justify the extra light. plus the LED's would be bright and shining in my eyes while working on the car which doesn't seem fun to me. I do see your dome lights working great for that though.

Well done! The conduit is a nice clean touch. Curious if you think you could have raised the pin switch to meet the hood rather than using the wood to "lower" the hood to meet the switch?
Also, it looks like you have a few things going to that breaker. Maybe a fuse panel would be helpful? The only reason I ask is because this is on my list of things to do in the near future so I am looking at examples.

so the pin switch mounting plate is the actual GROUND connection to the car, that's how the switch works. I suppose you could raise the switch with a metal spacer but I didn't have one on hand.
I plan on adding a fuse box in the near future.

That's how I did mine, you just get a threaded pinswitch that you can raise or lower as needed:
Underhood lighting is extremely useful, a mod I should have done years ago but glad I finally did it. No more fishing around with a flashlight.

certainly a viable and well used option. I thought about this actually, but the only place to put a switch like that is on the core support (need access to the underside of the switch to tighten it into place). And to me putting something toward the front of my engine bay that sticks up and could be snagged by a shirt/rag/hand didn't appeal to me.
My switch is out of the way, just as easily removable, and gets the job done. win-win-WIN!
(also that supercharger sure looks good under that light!)

You are right about the snagging, I've done it more than once. Luckily, or unluckily, it came as a pack of 5 so I've got 4 more spares lol!
