I do use the stock gas tank skid plate. Most of the wheeling I do is either sand, dirt, or mud so not a whole lot of rocks. It holds up great on those surfaces. If I did rock crawling I would change it out.

Ya it is a traction strip. Something like tow truck in a box. Can't remember the name of it. I have used it a couple times with fairly good results.

I know these aren't 4Runner videos but I believe the Prado uses the same ATRAC II system that the 4th Gen 4Runners use. If not I'm sure Thai will correct me soon ;) I thought the last video was pretty impressive. Very little wheel spin as this drive was using ATRAC correctly...

If that is the original stock battery the fix could be as simple as getting a new battery. If your battery is no good and your alternator still works it won't charge. Your mechanic, or the dealer, will be able to test for that. It is an '03 so the battery is 5 years old.

My dealer said when they upped the engine hp/torque between the '04 and '05 years they didn't modify the cats to support the change and that causes them to fail quicker. You can reduce the smell by changing the gas you put in the car but to eliminate the smell I had to have my cats replaced...

Happened with mine also at only 35k miles. I had the two cats replaced under warranty.

You guys do realize that the MPG shown is an average from the last time that it was reset right? If I reset mine it will show 7mpg as I accelerate and then start to increase as I cruise.

I'm curious as to why the 4th gen 4Runners only have one Torsen diff for the center. Trust me I fully understand how A-TRAC works, I have utilized A-TRAC off-road numerous times, and I will attest to how well it works. It seems as though if the 4Runner had a Torsen diff in the front and rear...

Does anyone know how strong the newer tubular running boards they have on the 2006 and up Sport Editions are? Are they just for show? Can they support the weight of the vehicle?
