Brake Assist - Panic Stop (Tire Pressure)

So... I got a random email the other day, ostensibly from Toyota, asking me about my 4Runner and how I liked it. I normally ignore these things because of the scam or phishing threats they have, but I decided to go ahead and fill this one out. Most of the questions were plain vanilla stuff, but...

Amusing myself at a Toyota dealership...

"Market Adjustment Value" of $15,000? Holy cow. How is that even legal? It's like what Honda dealers did in the gas crisis back in the '70s. I got my LTD for 7 percent below MSRP. I thought that was still too high, but what the heck, I got a decent deal on my trade in (a 2004 4Runner). I added...

Brake Assist - Panic Stop (Tire Pressure)

I took my 4Runner in today for it's 1 year checkup. On the way there, we had a real downpour from a strong thunderstorm. Right in the middle of that, I came up to a red light and hit the brakes, not hard. But they went into panic mode and locked up and the ABS came on and the ass end slid to the...

Brake Assist - Panic Stop (Tire Pressure)

This has happened to me too many times, including 4 times in the past 2 days. My 1 year checkup is coming up, so I'll talk with the dealer about it. But my sense is that this is working as designed. And if that's correct, I will get rid of this truck. I can't keep driving this thing with this...

    20’s just look right

Yup, the look of the 20s is great. But that only does me so much good since I can't see them when I'm driving. The ride is OK, but not great. My '04 LTD with 17s was much smoother.

Brake Assist - Panic Stop (Tire Pressure)

Brake Assist - Dangerous Just resurrecting an old thread... I love my 2017 LTD, except for this brake assist feature. I consider it to be unsafe, so much so that I am thinking of trading my truck in for something else. It has happened to me too many times in the short time I've had the vehicle...

Any Catastrophic Mechanical Failures in High Mileage Trucks?

I traded my '04 LTD with 148,000 miles on it for a new '17 LTD. The only real problem I had with my '04 was that the lines to the transmission cooler rotted and needed to be replaced around 90K or so. And, of course, it seemed like every time I brought it in for service at the dealer, they told...

Yep, there's an informed opinion. That said, how about a supercharger for the existing V6?

WFO9 Supercharger Install and results thread

A very interesting thread. I wonder what affect adding this kind of power to the truck has on it's various parts. Like, does the increased compression shorten engine gasket or piston ring life? Does different oil need to be used? Are any of the drive train joints hurt by the additional power...

Baja ladder install fitment issues - help

Gads... when I first read this, I thought "Wow, a 4Runner has a BLADDER? I didn't see that in the owner's manual." New glasses. Now.

    Tire pressure sensor in spare

I had a 2004 LTD until a couple of months ago when I traded it in for a 2017. I had problems with all 5 wheels losing pressure. The dealer told me there was corrosion on the rims because the Mavis guys didn't clean the rims well enough the last time I got new tires there. So, the dealer cleaned...

    Let 'er rip?

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that when my new Limited crossed 1,400 miles, it got a lot peppier. Could there be some kind of trigger in the engine controller that says, when you hit this point, the engine is now broken in, so I'll stop holding you back now and you can just let 'er rip? It is a...

    Airing down on beach sand

I have no idea how to measure the softness of the sand. It's not powder, some is wet and hard packed. It's pretty granular. I do worry a little about the narrowness of the tires on my truck, though. What the heck, I'll try it and see how things go.
