    Intermittent grinding from front end

The grinding is only while moving. Sometimes the clicking under the passenger side happens when stopped. Sometimes it will start grinding when I'm going 5 mph other times I'm doing 40 mph. I do think it is matched to speed when moving. It rarely lasts longer then a few seconds.

    Trouble shooting 4wd

I know this is an old post but someone might find it useful. I ended up not working on this for awhile. When I got around to it I figured out it was the ADD relay. It was visibly fried.

    Intermittent grinding from front end

Hey yall, I have a 1998 4 Runner SR5 with 4wd, automatic transmission, 3.4 V6. I have been having an issue with a grinding noise that sounds like it is coming from the front drivers side. The grinding comes and goes. It will last from 1-15 seconds and is sometimes ended with a loud pop. The...

    Trouble shooting 4wd

Update. Got switches on transfer case pulled and tested. The one on the passenger side was not working. Cleaned it with mass air flow sensor cleaner and was able to get continuity. Put everything back together and no change is it working. Also now I am not able to get it into 4wd by unplugging...

    Trouble shooting 4wd

Before I start taking things apart. Do yall have any tips on getting the sensors off? Should I go from the hole for the shifter or drop the crossmember and lower the transmission? Should I start with the 2 on the drivers side or the one on the passenger side. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Trouble shooting 4wd

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with this. So I am getting power at both VSV at all times. I found if I unplug one I can get it into 4wd. I will be doing some more troubleshooting when I get some time. Thanks again Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Need some advice on rust issue

I believe I found the leak. They ran a wire for a subwoofer and instead of going thru the grommet they pushed it to the side which allowed the water to come in there. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Trouble shooting 4wd

So I figured out if I unplug one of the VSV it will go into 4wd. The indicator light works also. I did get myself stuck in my yard testing it though (still waiting on new tires) haha. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Trouble shooting 4wd

Thanks for the reply. I am not getting any click and it does not feel any different when I switch to 4wd. I got partially stuck to see if it was working and only the rear wheel was spinning. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
