Intermittent grinding from front end

Hey yall,

I have a 1998 4 Runner SR5 with 4wd, automatic transmission, 3.4 V6.

I have been having an issue with a grinding noise that sounds like it is coming from the front drivers side. The grinding comes and goes. It will last from 1-15 seconds and is sometimes ended with a loud pop. The grinding reminds me of trying to put a car in gear without pushing the clutch in. I have recently realized that prior to or during this grinding I am hearing a clicking noise under the passenger side kick panel. Near the 4wd relay and abs computer.

The grinding is very intermittent. Some days I will drive 100 miles and nothing happens other days it starts when I leave the driveway and then has stopped by the time I leave the neighborhood. It has happened at low speeds up and to about 50 mph. 4wd seems to still work fine. Any help identifying this problem is much appreciated.

Thanks

Is this grinding only when the 4R is in gear or even when stopped in Park?

Does the grinding sound speed match the RPMs or wheel speed when moving?

The grinding is only while moving. Sometimes the clicking under the passenger side happens when stopped. Sometimes it will start grinding when I'm going 5 mph other times I'm doing 40 mph. I do think it is matched to speed when moving. It rarely lasts longer then a few seconds.

Make sure your dust shields are not touching your routers. Make sure your spring that clips to the pad pins is secure. :)

Do I removed the ADD relay and have put drove about 300 miles and it has not been grinding at all. When I first bought the vehicle the relay was fried.
