Why not just check for the failing HG, I've been looking for a 4th Gen 4R for a bit now and so far I've found several that have a bad HG and the owners dont even know. I just went on amazon and bought UVIEW 560000 Combustion Leak Tester but there are others.

I'm in the NoVA area and in general frame rust is pretty common and people up here don't do anything to protect the underside. I got a old miata that I'm grinding away rust and putting por15 everywhere.

By the way on Symptoms two I saw showed no symptoms at least according to the owners. one with 160k miles is eating coolant and the owner didn't notice, one with 111k showed no symptoms but with the tester I found it.

Sorry to stray the thread but are AC issues like this common on 4Rs? I'm looking to get one and only issues I have read about are A/C and cracking dash at least most common.
