is the AIS bypass considered an essential mod for a high mileage v8?

This is the first time I've heard of the AIP issue on the v8s. I'm doing a little research now and it does not look good. Is this a common problem?

Jeez, the aero on these 4runners is worse than I thought. I'm going to add an air dam, delete the mud flaps and running boards, delete the stupid "spoiler", add a front skid plate (mine is missing), anything to help the air slip by the truck better and with less wake.

My new-to-me 4Runner is awesome but the MPG sucks. I got less that 15 mpg (calculated at the pump) on the highway last weekend! V8, 75mph, AC on, 1" front spacer lift, driving into the wind. Yeah all those things add up to bad fuel economy, but it shouldn't be that bad, right?? On the way back...

Doing a little reading on the subject... The bodies between the 4runners and GX470s are completely different, they just share the same "styling". The frame, driveline and suspension (mostly) is the same.

How cool would it be for the rear door to swing out - like a Land Cruiser - instead of up? This would also allow you to mount your spare tire on the door, allows you to put extra long stuff (like kayaks) on the roof while still being able to open the rear door, doesn't hit your wife in the head...

I have the brand new key they just cut. I don't know if they cut by duplicating the old key, or they did some dealer trick and got the key pattern from the car itself or something....
